Ecodome rebuild 2

The picture shows that the water was at the bottom of the soil and the container also received some of it

Problems:

-Can the plants survive?

-Is there enough water and food?

-Is the dirt going to stay moist?

Component Amount incl Units Reasoning Daily Observations
Carrots 10g Food for the cricket Food almost ran out
Dirt 55g For the plants to survive It was still moist on the bottom
Water 2 cups For the plants and cricket to consume It was absorbed into the plant
Plants 3 plants To provide oxygen It did not have enough water and the roots were weak
Crickets 1 To survive It was alive for around 4 days

Conclusion: We should put more food and may need more plants. We’ll also try putting cling wrap around the top so the water does not evaporate

Ecodome Rebuild 1

Problems:

-Should we have put 2 crickets in?

-Are the plants enough to provide oxygen

-Will the cricket feed on nuts?

Observations

Component Amount incl Units Reasoning Daily Observations
Mixed nuts 5g Food for the cricket The cricket still didn’t finish it after a week
Dirt 75g For the plants to survive It was still moist and dark in color
Water 2 cups For the cricket to drink, the soil to stay moist and the plant to survive. It was absorbed more into the plant
Plants 3 big plants To provide oxygen It was surviving and green in color of the leaves, but it was barely green.
Cricket 1 Last time one died so we only tried putting 1 in to get as much oxygen, food and water as possible by itself First day it was walking around. A few days later it barely moved and we had to touch the outside of the container for some movement to occur

Conclusion: We could try to put less food and focus more on the amount of water and reduce the amount of dirt so the water won’t be absorbed as much

As you can see in the picture here, the dirt was sticking all over the container, probably from the movement of the cricket and the water. This did not smell very good

Ecodome Trial 1

Problems:

-Is there enough water?

-Are the food enough for the cricket?

-Can the 2 crickets survive together?

Attempt 1: FAILED after 4 days

Observations

Component Amount incl Units Reasoning Daily Observations
Carrots and mixed nuts 20.7g Food for the cricket Cricket only ate a little bit of food
Dirt 66g For the plants to survive It got really dry
Water 1 cup To keep the plant moist and keep the cricket hydrated It was on the bottom of the dirt
Plants 3 plants To provide oxygen It was dying
Crickets 2 So there is a population and the cricket can communicate One cricket died and one survived

Photo of the container after the cricket died

As you can see, the plants were dying and the cricket ate very little of our carrots and mixed nuts.

Quarter 1 Review

This quarter for Social Studies we did a debate about the most important invention ever . *Script can be accessed at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pokJaJhEaJlg_0K1GXyJtOm_r-5WUngoTJyPfMcW5W0/edit?ts=59a5131f.

I think my greatest achievement in this class was to lead my group in the debate. I had a lot of confidence with my scripts and also listened to the other team closely to find any errors in their speeches in order to make a good rebuttal. However, the rebuttal was the hardest part. We had a bunch of ideas and a short amount of time to say them out. We also had to defend their attacks and adapt to the situation quickly.

In the second quarter I will focus more on the future and see the paths available for me in high school and work hard to achieve this.
