I have enjoyed and learned a lot of different and interesting new things while in Social Studies. Some of things that I have enjoyed are:
- Reading and annotating documents.
- Pecha Kucha
Here is one of my sketchnotes:
I think through out the year I achieved a lot of different things in different classes. For example in Social Studies I did the Pecha Kucha, which was a 3-4 minute presentation with images rapidly popping up the the screen, and you have to talk about them with the limited time you have.
The most challenging thing for me this year was definitely Chinese, although it was fun, but it would take a lot of time and a lot of effort. Which then affects all the homework that I have for other classes. It would affect the amount of time a I spent on other classes and the amount I have to do my own thing.
Some skills or strengths that I have are manners and kindness. These two things will definitely help me with next year and I think it will get me far.
The Don’t Panic video that we watched was very intriguing. The Swedish presenter by the name of Hans Rosling talked about economy and growth in different countries. He used an outstanding amount of examples to show he’s audience what poor people and people in poverty have to deal with. He also showed the audience different things using graphs. His use of graphs were amazing. Some interesting new things that I found out was over time countries grew a lot bigger then I expected them too. I also found out that there was a much bigger drop in life expectancy during the World War. This video will help me later in life because a big part of your life if you have a lot of money. Is to not waste it on things that are useless and things that are a waste of money.
Script of Video:
“Hi, my name is Stefan and today I will be talking about the economy and life expectancy of different countries. For my 2 countries I picked Australia and Macedonia. As you can see on the bottom part the is the economy and on the left is the life expectancy. When I click this button here in the bottom left the timeline will start from 1800 and go all the way to 2015. It will show you the amount of money and life the countries got over time. When it hits the 1920s you can see that it all just dropped because of the world war. That was a hard time but never the less the countries came back stronger then ever. They grew and grew. Australia grew higher then Macedonia only because Australia is more developed but thats the whole reason why we are doing this. Now as you can see at 2015 most countries are developed.”
Have you assessed your prototype’s effectiveness?
Not just yet, although we did see that the turbidity was clear. There is nothing inside of the glass instead of the filtrated water. Next class my group and I will be testing the Ph and the copper. Other things will need to be tested but they are the main things for now.
What are the results of tests done?
We did the turbidity test and we were able to confidently and definetly say that the turbidity is clear. This was a real highlight because that meant our filter worked to a certain extent. Next time, we will do more tests so that we can say that our filter works and we can drink the water. Although we need to run more tests before doing so.
What do you need to do to improve your prototype?
Next time, we need to use a just a tad more charcoal and chop it up into smaller bits because big charcoal cannot really filter very well, we need to have small chunks so that it can really filter out those small bits that are not good for the human body. I think that next time, we can also use a bit less cotton because it is not really necessary, but besides that, we did great.
During this project I learned a lot of different things. How to use CC search for images, and also how to create a digital poem! WOW! It was a long process although I managed to get there. Somethings that I was struggling with were, getting images that were NON-COPYRIGHT, finding the right music to go with the poem, and editing the video right down so the viewer does not get bored of me going “um” “ah” things like that. I am proud of myself for creating this video that I feel is well developed and put together nicely. The only thing I would change if I did this all over again, is either to pick another topic that I have more information about and that I can say for longer. I feel that this poem is a bit short although it is sweet. I am proud of myself for completing this digital poem!
1 Why did christianity take hold in the ancient world?
↪My two favorite exerts from my DBQ!
My first excerpt is the topics that I focused on. They were really intriguing to me and I really liked learning about them.
My second one is the evidence because that was the most interesting part of the whole DBQ because it has the most information of the topic.
↪ DBQ OUTLINE: Why Did Christianity Take Hold in the Ancient World?
↪ DBQ FINAL DRAFT
2. BIGGEST TAKEAWAY
My biggest takeaway from these topics was how Christianity became such a looked after religion after all it has been through and all of what people done to it and for it.
3. VISUALIZING TEXT -sketch-noting
How did sketch-noting help you understand how Christianity originated and spread?
Well it helped me because instead of using words and going to the dictionary to find out their meaning, you can draw it and explain.
What did you learn about yourself as a visual notetaker?
I learned that image are stronger than words and can explain more than words. If you are a visual learner then this is the technique for you.
4. EXPLAIN EVERYTHING & VLOGGING as a METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES
What discoveries did you encounter as you were vlogging and exploring your thinking?
I discovered that it is ok to have a different way of thinking than other people and that you are different to everyone else.

5. GOAL SETTING
What is ONE of your GOALS for social studies?
One of my goals is to learn as much as possible about history so then when I grow up and people ask me “what happened here and what happened there”. I can answer correctly and be proud.
What did you learn about poetry?
I learned a variation of things while we have been learning about poetry. I learned how to use whitespace and linebreaks for the first time. They are my favourite parts about poetry.
Do you know consider yourself a poet?
Yes I do because I have learned a lot from my teacher Mr Jardin, and he has taught me a lot of techniques and key parts about poetry so now I can/could be successful poet.
Do you think you will continue writing poetry?
Yes I do because I know that some of my family members are in love with poetry like my sister and my mother, so maybe I could ask them if they want me to write them a poem, or maybe they will ask me, who knows!
What was your overall experience with poetry?
Overall I thought that it was a great unit to do and I think that the techniques in poetry do not have be just used in poems, I think that they can and should be used in different types of writing.
How have you grown as a writer?
I have grown by learning different techniques that don’t just help with poetry, they help with anything like writing a reflection, or even writing a book.
This is me explaining all the key parts of my poem and analysing every word and line of my poem.
