Day 21 Eco Dome

This is the 3rd attempt of our eco  dome, the last 2 died horribly so we were thinking that we should switch back the bottle sideways because there would be more space for food, water and for the crickets as well. For this one we are thinking that we should put grasshopers and crickets because if one of them die, the others are going to eat that corpse for meat.

Here is a video for the 3rd attempt

Day 9 Eco Dome

For our 2nd attempt, we put in 1 cricket because we think that if we put too many crickets and grasshopers then they will eat a lot more and eventually they will run out of food. We also thought that we should flip the box back to how its suppose to be because we can have more dirt in the box which shows that the plants have more space to grow.

Here is the video explaining about our 2nd attempt.

Radical Invention Debate

The automobile had a greater impact on shaping human history than the airplane. I am PRO and my role was the moderator, and judges.

Debate Planning Doc

  1. From the research, preparation and the debates themselves, what did you learn about the art of persuasion? Please explain.

For me, I have learned a lot of things about the art of persuasion, i would like to point out the 3 most important one. #1 I learned that practicing my speech is very important because then I would know what to say and not stutter. #2 I learned that i need to have good supporting evidence for my claim so I don’t just sound like I am making things up. #3 Finally, I learned that you have to start with a strong claim because with a weak claim it’s gonna mess up the entire speech.

  1. How do you establish credibility as a debater? Explain fully.

I wasn’t really persuasive but i did notice that during the second trial, one of the people sound really persuasive because he/she was really confident while talking in his/her speech and it really persuade me.

  1. What surprised you the most about your debate and/or the debate experience?

I was really surprise how much I stuttered during the debate because usually I don’t really stutter in front of people. I got really scared because I stuttered and I think I had a brain fart because I completely forgot what I was talking about.

  1. What were you most proud of in your own debate?

I guess I was really proud of how well my claim was, I mean it could have been a lot better but coming from a person that doesn’t really write a lot of claims I think I did pretty well.

  1. What would be your next steps? Or in other words, what would you have done differently?

I wish I would have practice more of my speech because I kept stuttering and it really affected my speech and my confidence.

Judge Assessment

2nd Judge Assessment

Day 7 Ecodome

  • Water – because the cricket need to have water to be able to survive
  • Plants – to provide oxygen and food for the cricket to survive.
  • Dirt – to help the plants grow
  • Average size leaf – to build a house for the cricket.
  • Rocks – to build some kind of wall so the water won’t just mix with the soil.

We changed the shape of how we were gonna shape the bottle, we were planning to put the bottle side ways but the it was really hard to put things in the bottle. We use the top of a bottle to be filled with water and it holds the water better. This is going to be my first attempt at making the eco dome and using it.

Revolutionary Thinker

Two Minimalist Posters

↪How did it go conducting research? Triumphs? Challenges?

I found difficult conducting research on Da Vinci’s childhood. I was intrigued by Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” because he used a completely different kind of paint.

↪What did you learn about yourself when you had to take notes?

I found it really easy to summarize because I can identify the main ideas. At first, I didn’t really understand direct quotations as a note-taking technique but now I know that they are useful because they can capture very important information and they also can make my writing more complex.

↪ What insights did you gain about narrative hooks that you may not have been so aware of before?

I now know that narrative hooks that we can use descriptive words to hook the reader more. I also am more aware of the adding “the why?” in my writing because my writing often doesn’t explain.

↪ What narrative hooks did you experiment with in your writing?

I experimented with the 5Ws and descriptive language. After I read my writing, it really caught my attention, even though I was the one who wrote it.

Historical Narrative w/ Musical Accompaniment VLOG

Reflection VLOG

↪What discoveries did you encounter as you were vlogging?

When vlogging, I noticed that I’m more confident reading my work aloud. At school, there were people around me and I didn’t feel as confident.

When vlogging at home, I noticed that I made quite a few mistakes when I had to read aloud. Usually when I write, I don’t read my work aloud. Now, I know that I need to read my work aloud. I also realized that I stutter a lot even though I know what I’m supposed to be saying. Though, it’s not really a problem most of the time.

↪ What is your BIGGEST TAKEAWAY (BIGGEST LEARNING) from our Revolutionary Thinker’s Project?

My biggest learning takeaway is related to Leonardo Da Vinci and his notebooks. They were very detailed and they have a lot of designs. By looking at them, it shows a lot of imagination. Now, I wish to be more detailed in my sketch-noting because I want to show people what I’m thinking in my mind and I want them to imagine what I’m thinking.

Free Write 1 Flashback… ~(˘▾˘~)

The most interesting free write that I have wrote would be when we only had 1 week of school until we have spring break. I wrote: “Spring break is just 1 week away :)… oh… wait… THERE IS NOTHING TO DO IN SPRING BREAK!!!! The only thing I can actually do is youtube, video games and CHORES! You may be wondering ‘Why don’t you hangout with your friends?’ I don’t have any friends. Well, I do but like they are either busy, grounded, lives to far from me or they’re just too lazy to go. Well, there is this birthday party coming up and I get invited.” It was interesting because I wrote a lot about this and I might have exaggerated just a tiny bit. I have put effort on this thing so the reader better appreciate this. ಠ_ಠ  The main point of this free write was to be excited and happy but I have took that and flipped it upside down making it sound more like torture and sadness. I didn’t really want it to be like that but hey, my hands writes as my brain think of what to write, so don’t judge. I really like how I have made this more personal than I have to. It isn’t that personal but I honestly think that it is.

Renaissance Interests (• ε •)

This unit, we are learning about the Renaissance and Florence. Our job right now is to write a blog post about what interests me about the Renaissance. Renaissance is very strange to me because it started after the dark ages or the time where things improve (I don’t have a better name for this so). The Renaissance has lasted for 250 years. It began in 14th-century Italy. Renaissance is apparently means “rebirth” in French. Beginning in Italy, something called humanism has developed. Humanists believed in the worth and potential of all individuals In this blog, I am going to be talking about what about Renaissance that interest me.

The first thing that seem to interest me is the arts and statues that they have made/ created. It is very smart of them to use a material that is strong enough to last until this day. They said that the painters best advance was the perspective that they have. It was an advantage because they can make different things with their own choice. The arts and sculptures are very unique from each other which make it extra special.

The second reason is they created science and technology. By “they” I mean Leonardo Da Vinci. He is a super smart person that has done different things like, science, astronomy, sculpting, painting, inventing, engineering, math, and some party planning. He invented things that could never be built at that time so he kept the ideas to himself and some of his papers and notes still exist today. He studied about the human body, muscle, skull, hearts and things like that. He also drew it down so we can have a good understanding of what it is.

This is the different reason why the Renaissance is more interesting for me. Basically, Renaissance is the time where everything comes back together and it has pasted through the dark ages. Which means that after things have improved and everyone has updated, they created an empire and has a lot of smart people like Leonard Da Vinci.

Food Drive Reflection

This unit in ELA, we are making this poster talking about the food charity/ drive for a little school name Anh Linh School. We had partners to help us with the posters. Me and Kirsten worked on this poster starting with the paper draft. We planned to put our title as food drive but then we think that it was too simple and kind of lame so we changed it into something else. Eventually, we moved on to working on the computer which was kinda easier because we knew what to do and we can also change things to make it a little bit better. Eventually, we finish the poster and print it out. It was really fun finding the color for the background and the colors that fit the mood of the things. The things that was challenging was making a stickman out of different shapes in google drawings which was a horrible idea because of our OCD problems and it was hard to fit the shapes in the human. During the process, I have learned that making a persuasive requires a lot of things that are necessary. It is so hard to choose the right color, choosing the direction of the person and stuff like that. Over all, I loved this project because of the creativity and persuasiveness that I need.
