Human Rights Project Reflection


In this project on Human Rights, we focused on improving/learning on working as a team. This is an important skill because you will need to work with many teams.  One thing I improved while working on this project is my ability to cooperate. This blog post provides a reflection on my work, as well as a sample of what I accomplished.

  • How did my collaboration with classmates help me focus my ideas or provide new insights?
    Usually, I would just do things myself, but with groupmates I could see other points of views. For example, Gun Hee wanted to do it this way but I wanted it to the other way, so we decided on the pros and cons of each way, and found out which was better. Listening to others is very good.

    • What will you do to continue your involvement with this group or social issue, or with other service work?
      I heard from Ms. Burger that next year, we will be partnering with our organization in Week Without Walls in order to build a house. Our organization is Habitat for Humanity, and they build houses for poor people that can’t afford houses. We will be partnering with them next year.
    • Because of my service-learning, I am able to talk to others with no fret. I am also able to cooperate with my group. Also, I can present easily.

What was the driving force of the European Imperialism?


In this project on the European Imperialism, we focused on improving/learning our knowledge of the European Imperialism. This is an important skill because it can help in college if we learn about European Imperialism.  One thing I improved while working on this project is my ability to add evidence. This blog post provides a reflection on my work, as well as a sample of what I accomplished.

What trouble did you have and why?

I had trouble because I couldn’t manage my time well, and it was hard for me to write it efficiently. I think that I wasn’t able to complete all things that I needed to on time and it was hard for me to finish.

Nationalism: The Driving Force

Not many people know a lot about the African Imperialism, and it will remain the same without the knowledge of the driving force of this occurrence. In 1884 and 1885, a conference in Berlin was held with all leaders in Europe. However, no African Leaders attended. This was due to the conference being about dividing up Africa. This started the African Imperialism. The driving force behind the African Imperialism was national pride because the Europeans had great competition for power. Technology may also be another factor of the African Imperialism, however, this argument has overlooked the fact that without the Europeans need for power, this would not have started anyways.

The driving force behind the African Imperialism was national pride. The reason behind this was because the European had a hungering thirst for power. On Document A, a map of Africa shows all the parts that each of the Europeans own. The map details the results of the Berlin conference, and it can be seen that much competitive tension was shown due to the fact that all of Africa was filled in. According to Document B, Ruskin states that in order for England to again be a source of light, a center of peace, he remarks that England has to find colonies as fast and far as possible. This means that England, in order to restore their nationalism, they have to search for land and take it over, therefore, England acquired the most land from Africa. Due to the evidence that was noted previously, it can only be true that nationalism is the main driving force of the European Imperialism.

Technology has also been considered another driving force of the African Imperialism, however, this argument has not considered the fact that without the Europeans’ greed, none of this would have started. According to Document C, it shows each of the technology and how it was used. For example, the Electric Telegraph helped communicate over long distances. This meant that each technology that was produced had some type of effect on the African Imperialism, and that technology started it all. However, this counterclaim fails to notice that technology itself can not be a driving force. The Europeans who have failed to notice that these technologies together would have been able to create the Imperialism, which is why it can not be a driving force. For example, on Document C, the use and significance of each invention. Each invention does not seem like an invention that would be used in order for an Imperialism, and therefore, it would be hard to start the African Imperialism with these items. Therefore, although technology seems as a driving force of the African Imperialism, it fails to notice many points, all in all, it is not the driving force.

The main reason why the African Imperialism happened was because of nationalism because the European’s thirst for power is off the charts. Technology can also be considered as a driving force, however, it fails to consider all the benefits technology gives. Nationalism, however, does. All in all, nationalism is the main driving force of the African Imperialism and NOT technology.

Toy Story Movie Review

In this project on Toy Story, we focused on improving/learning on our ability to express opinions based on opinions from the Enlightenment thinkers. This is an important skill because it will help us when talking people.  One thing I improved while working on this project is my ability to display my opinions. This blog post provides a reflection on my work, as well as a sample of what I accomplished.

– What helped me stay organized?

I was able to stay organized by using a script. This helped my ideas be organized and it also just helped me overall. Also, the script helped me easily memorize my lines for the movie review. This helped me stay organized in the movie review, and helped me stay organized as I didn’t have to make postcards and more.



Enlightenment DBQ for Social Studies


A strength I showed was my ability to clearly flow my ideas. This means that I was able to organize my paragraphs well and make the ideas connect.

Something I should work on in my next DBQ is to expand my analysis, and add more thinking behind my evidence.


My Essay:

Gender Equality Should Be A Priority In A Society

Throughout these years, women have never been able to do the things that men have been able to do because of societies that do not support gender equality. Therefore, a new society should prioritise the idea of gender equality because females and males are born equal, the society will be more economically beneficial overall, and women have many positive traits. However, some may think that religion is more favorable to a society but gender equality will provide better beneficial traits for the society. Although a strong case could be made that religion is a better idea to focus on, this reason is less valid because gender equality will include all the people in the society.

First of all, women have many positive traits as well. Women can be wise and virtuous, which is why they should be included into societies. According to Mary Wollstonecraft, if women are free, then they will be wise and virtuous. This evidence points to women being able to do things that men might not be able to do, which would be beneficial to the society. This would widen the opportunities for a more diverse society, and companies can employ women who may have some traits that other men do not have. In conclusion, women can have positive traits, which would help the society because of the benefits that they provide for companies.

Critics may claim that religion is a better idea to base a society around. In Document B, Voltaire argues that if there are more religions allowed, then the society will be happy and peaceful. Given the evidence, some conclude that since the society will be all joyous and serene, there will be less fighting, less crimes and more happiness, which would be an ideal society for many. Although this idea seems convincing at first, in reality, religion can harm one’s government. Voltaire claims that if only one religion is followed in a society, then the government could become arbitrary. This leads to the conclusion that religion should not be the focus of a society because religion is not as trustworthy and can cause wars. However, gender equality will never start wars, and instead will bring beneficial traits for everything. Therefore, one should follow gender equality over religion.

In all, a society should use gender equality as the main idea because women can do things that men can not. One can see that gender equality is beneficial to the society because of how women have many traits. They can then use these traits to create a more developed society. Not all women are inferior, which is why we should treat them equally and consider the benefits they will add to the society.

Mandarin Reflection

In this unit, I learned how to confront doctors in Chinese, and also, the symptoms of the common cold. I also learned illnesses, such as sore throat and common cold. Some keywords that I gan mao, which is the common cold, sheng bing which is getting sick, and yi shing which is doctor. When you are sick, you will have a sore throat, you will cough, runny nose, and you will be uncomfortable. I can make an appointment with the nurse to see the doctor because I was able to perform a skit with my partner about it. The doctor would ask me what time I am open, and what type of sickness I have, because my partner and I did a skit on it. I tell him that I have a cold, then I describe what type of symptoms I have. I think that I was able to memorise my lines well, which I wasn’t very good at before. I was also able to cooperate with my partner to make a skit.

Buddy Experience

Jun and MinhThe buddy experience was a very good learning experience for me. I learned how to take care of a first grade without him crying because it was boring which means that this is a good step for me in my life. When I grow older and maybe have kids, I can learn how to manage them without harming or making then cry. They learned a lot of things, for example how to work with other. I think that learning how to make things with bigger students will allow them to see how to be like a big boy.
