1. When this task was introduced to you what were your first thoughts, reactions? Why?
At first, I thought that this task would be really cool as we get to communicate with New York students. Also as we get to raise awareness about the animal we are doing by putting it into a book, I thought this was an amazing idea.
2. What are you excited the most about the collaboration unit?
I am most excited about the final book and the communication between us and the New York students.
3. a) Explain how you have been connecting with your buddy?
It has been really fun connecting with our buddies so far and as our buddy responds to us a lot and asks a lot of questions about our project and just to know much about us, as we do too. It has been very interesting and I really enjoy talking to my buddy and getting to know more about her.
b) What is your buddy’s name and what did you learn about them?
My buddy’s name is Baylee and her favorite subject is art. Her favorite singer is Sia, and wants to travel to Australia. Baylee has 3 sisters and 2 brothers, she also plays field hockey and basketball. Her favorite animal is a dog and wants to be a vet whens she grows up. Also, she was born on Long Island in Huntington Hospital. She likes chili and pizza and also has a bird and a dog.
c) What similarities or differences did you notice between you and your buddy?
Our favorite subject is both art, we both like dogs. I also like pizza but she plays field hockey which I don’t but would love to try.
4. How has (will) your drawing/learning been (be) effected because of the collaboration so far? (for example are you working differently because you are working with someone else?)
My drawing/learning has not been affected too much as my partner and I have things in common and can work together without changing our learning too much.
5. a)What did you think about Graeme Base writing to us?
I think it was very helpful and cool that the author of the book in which we are inspiring off of is helping us to understand more about the project and giving us good advice. He gave us a lot of information from the letter he sent us and really helped us during the progress of making the book.
b) What did you learn from his letter?
There was a lot that I learned about him as a person and about his book. I found it interesting that he wanted to be a rockstar when he was young. I also learned that his favorite page in his book is the lazy lion page.
c) Describe what you think of his book.
I really like this book as the illustrations are very detailed and captured my attention. I also liked how there was a lot going on, on one page as there was a lot to look at and analyze. Overall, I think this is a great book for anyone.
6. What challenges have you faced so far?
There weren’t a lot of challenges as we didn’t have miscommunication and go everything done. The only challenge is the time difference.
