I just finished reading The Magician’s Elephant by Kate Dicamillo. The main character in this book is Peter. Peter is an orphan that is training to be a soldier.
In the beginning of the story, Peter meets a fortune teller. He uses the money that Vilna his guardian asks him to buy fish and bread. He feels excited because the fortune teller tells him that his sister is alive and the elephant will bring him there.
As the story progresses, Peter sees the elephant. And when he looks in to the elephant eyes he sees that the elephant must go home. After that Peter forgot all about Adele. I think that Peter felt sorrow and pity for the elephant.
By the end of the story, Peter brought the elephant to the magician to send him home. Peter also finds his sister Adele. He is very excited and happy. Peter and Adele live together happily ever after in the end.
I liked that the author used a good choice of words the story. The words described a lot. It made me picture the scenes very clearly.
I think the message of this story is that you have to believe the unbelievable.
I would recommend this book because this book is a very good book that is full with fun and adventure.
