Facebook Privacy!

“Justine, who is this person you just added?”
“That’s Adrian, Ma, he just shortened his last name because he thought it was too long.”
“Oh! Okay, thanks.”

I’m very thankful that my mother asks me these things in person instead of commenting on my wall about it. I’m also thankful that she doesn’t snoop into my own profile. Privacy is very important to me, and although my mom worried about my profile at times, at least she asks instead of taking things into her own hands.

After I looked at different news on Google News, I found 3 articles of the same topic. A teenager had sued his own mother for ‘harrassment’, because she had hacked or snooped into his facebook account. She changed his privacy settings, had put ‘slanderous’ comments or simply comments about his personal life, as well as changed his password. “He clearly feels his privacy has been invaded whereas his mother maintains that after reading some of her son’s posts on Facebook she had concerns for him.” As said in the first Article I read about this incident.

It was said in Article 2 that the son, Lane, left his facebook account logged in on her computer, therefore she decided to do a little snooping. She found out that he had driven 95mph after going to a Hot Spring because of a girl, and was worried about him. I think that although she had good intentions, it isn’t right to intrude with other people’s privacy, especially if it is their own business.

There will definitely be times when my father would ask me about a boy, or tease me, or write on my wall, but he would never say anything that would cause me to ‘sue’ him. Nor would my mother. Therefore; I may not exactly know how this teen feels, but like I had said before…PRIVACY IS IMPORTANT! Especially to teenagers!
