Framing:

Framing:

  • Center of interest with objects in the foreground
  • Depth

The light bulb is the center of interest in the fore ground and the numerous light bulbs as well as the soccer goals give the image depth.

The Rule of Thirds:

The Rule of Thirds:

  • Imagine that the area of your picture is divided into thirds both horizontally and vertically
  • Make sure that you can see the full shadow of the object

The tree was my main object and I tried to divide the area of the tree into thirds, the actual tree filling the centre and top areas and the base filling the bottom area. I also included the shadow of the tree leaves hanging down from the branches.

Balance

Balance:

  • Relaxed
  • Geometric shapes
  • Arrangement of shapes and colors

The grass and trees in the background gives a relaxing atmosphere to the picture. The frame of the swing set as well as the chains holding the swing seat seem to represent geometric shapes althought the swing set has no particular shape. The green colour of the grass and trees seem to blend very well with the blue colour of the swing set.

Avoiding Mergers

Avoiding Mergers:

  • look at the background before you pose your subject
  • Leave a little space around everyone

The main center of attention which is the power switch has a lot of space around it and the simple white background doesn’t merge with the main subject.

Simplicity

Simplicity:

  • The most visual attention for your photos
  • Simple backgrounds won’t steal the attention from subject

The basketball is the main center of attention and the white background and the gym floor doesn’t steal attention from the subject.

Lines

Lines:

  • Strong lines make the picture more dynamic
  • Make sure that the lines are not obscured by the background
  • You can use diagonal lines as leading lines to show a way in the picture
  • Repetitive lines can draw the persons attention

I think this represents lines because the lines in the picture are the main center of attention. The thick blue line seems to make the picture more dynamic and the simple background doesnt draw attention away from the lines. The lines in the picture gradually get smaller in the distant and seem to eventualy meet at one point as if it was showing a way.
