By
Jessica Pham

Splash! The giant water coaster splashed water all over us.
“Ahhh…Water is on my clothes!” I screamed so loud that everyone could hear me.
The water coaster went so fast that I almost fell out of the cart. After a loud and wet time on the water coaster, I zoomed out of the cart and shook my body so I could get a little bit dry.

“Jessica, do you want to buy new clothes?” my dad asked.
“Sure, I feel like a soggy dog,” I replied shivering.
“Me too!” my Dad said laughing.
Before we bought the new clothes, we sat down on a nearby chair to rest. Then, I thought to myself, I can’t wait until my next splashy wet adventure.

Images add a lot to a blog post. Of course, the image should be relevant to the content, not just decorative (like the pretty one I put on the left.)

If you’re lucky enough to have taken a photo to go with your content, that’s great. All you have to do is upload/insert it from your computer files. But what if you don’t have any personal photos to add?

We encourage students to use the Compfight image search engine because it gives users the option to search only photos with Creative Commons licenses, and defaults to a ‘safe’ search, which is great for young people. Compfight will take you to Flickr accounts, and will make it easy for students to credit the photographers.

Recently I also heard of Photopin from another CoETaIL student

Here is a survey we created for our fourth grade parents:

For the past few years, our new grade 4 students create a ‘Me Collage’ to introduce themselves to their classmates. Each student gets a large sheet of poster paper and some basic instructions. They decide how they will decorate it, what they’ll write on it and what they want to glue to it. The only ‘guidelines’ are that the poster must have their name and help their classmates (and teachers) get to know them better. When it’s ready, they all have a chance to stand in front of the class and present their poster.

Unfortunately, I never get to see everyone’s presentation (we have 60 grade 4 students after all) and when I see them hanging up in the classroom later, it’s not the same as having someone explain the content. The good news is this year, our grade four teachers are giving the students the opportunity to post them in their blog. Using the Thinglink tool, some students are even giving us extra information. Click on Mike’s poster below to go to his blog. Run your mouse over his image to see his explanations. I just love this Thinglink tool! There are so many possibilities!!!
