“Wow…” As I was looking at the pictures of before and after photo retouching and I was very astonished at how different and beautiful a person could be only by clicks of a mouse. The size of people’s bodies, shape of their face, locations of their eyes, noses, and lips, and even their eye colors magically changed as they clicked more of the tools in Adobe photoshop. They could even change a young, pretty woman to an old lady, and an old lady to a young, attractive woman.

I definitely think that negative body images contributes to editing people’s appearances with photoshop. Since many people are not confident about themselves and especially women have low self-esteems for their appearances or body figures, they try to change the parts they don’t like and create total different people out of their pictures that satisfy them. I do know that people want to look good and that they try hard to because I do too. But I think that this method of looking good, using photoshop, would not help because it will only be changing the look of people in the computers but not in real life. Even if people are satisfyed by how they look much better in the computer, the satisfaction would go away again as they look into their mirrors. I think the modern critics about beauty is not right, no, I think people can’t be critical about beauty nowadays because people can easily “cheat” to be beautiful. I think the real beauty would be able to be seen when a person has a good self-esteem about him/herself and appreciates his/her appearance as it is rather than changing his/her appearances into the look that would only satisfy that person for a short time.
