Video Reflection

November 23rd, 2009 by WHuang13

From the video we saw in our ICT class, there were some important facts that people should be aware of while using the computer. Most of time, when a computer has been hiked, you will not be able to notice it. This is because there seems to be no symptoms. Criminals are able to control their computer and obtain access to other peoples private information: such as bank accounts, nationality, passwords, and much more. The software that the criminals are using is called botnet, through a phishing format, (e-mails will be sent to your e-mail boxes) the useres might easiely persuade you to give out their privite information under the circumstances that they don’t even know it was a trap.
botnet1

Botnet- Botnet is a computer term for a collection of software robots, or bots, that run autonomously and automatically. A bot typically runs hidden and uses a covert channel to communicate with its server. Generally, the perpetrator of the botnet has compromised a series of systems using various tools.

Distributed Denial of Service  (DDOS)- Distributed Denial of Service is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users.

Essentials security that can help us avoid a Botnet:

1. Enable Operating System Updates

2. Firewall

3. Anti-virus

What are the Millennium Development Goals?

November 13th, 2009 by WHuang13

This is a video I made with Xtranormal about the Millennium Development goals. In the video, i had explained about WHAT ARE THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS and ways that people can try to achieve it. I think that Xtranormal is a better way to presenting a project. Instead of heaving wordie essays, you first summarize into important ideas and create an animation from Xtranormal. The video will caught younger kids’ attention better then just giving them paper to read off, and most likely people can understand better by watching the video.

Reflection of oil debate

November 13th, 2009 by WHuang13

Today, in our geography 9B class, we had a debate about whether humans should continue drilling for more oil or to discontinue drilling for oil. First, we began our debate online through forums on Moodle. In the forum, individuals can create topics and lead discussions. I personally enjoyed this opportunity to debate this topic, however we didn’t come to a conclusion, or a solution to the issue of drilling for oil. The next debate was a live debate done in two small groups. Each group was given five minutes to have a mini debate, which I think did not allow the group to go deeper into the topic. I like today’s lesson because it gave me a chance to argue with other people (that’s my habit) however from my point of view, I believe that scientists are already working on finding an alternative energy source to replace oil. However, we’ll have to wait until then. When the oil companies are drilling oil, the government should create stringent rules and enforce fines to guarantee that oil spills will not happen again and environmental pollution is under control.

X-tranormal comparison Reflection

November 10th, 2009 by WHuang13

There are many ways that people can express their ideas and theorems. Writing text and using x-tranormal are two ways that we can use. Technically, writing text allows people to express their ideas completely, but most of time the text will become too wordy and people will lose interest in reading them. However people will become a better writer through using xtranormal, because they will have to summarize their text and find a simple way to explain it. The less words we use to express an idea, the better the text is.

Xtranormal

November 5th, 2009 by WHuang13

Xtranormal is a free website that people can make their own videos and animations if they knows how to type in English. I think that xtranormal is a program for beginner users to experience and create their own animations. It provides simple icons such as sound, camera angles, expressions, simple movements  for people to play around with.

Ideas to raise money $_$

October 19th, 2009 by WHuang13

A good way to raise money for our school is through having a money war. All seven grades can compete against each other. The idea is this, take 7 empty water jugs and drill a hole in the very top.The last step, paste a paper with a grade level to the water job.

To gain points for your grade, you can donate VND paper bill:

To subtract points for other grade, you can donate VND coins:

The grade that has the most points will receive an ice-cream party, the rest of money will goes to charity.

Plans for Achievements

October 19th, 2009 by WHuang13

To be able to achieve any of the Millennium Developmental Goals, we first need to raise a lot of money! To gather support from teachers and students, we need to create plans for fundraising. Only through the generation of funds can these Developmental Goals be achieved.

How can we help achieve the Millennium Development Goals?

October 14th, 2009 by WHuang13

The United Nation is attempting to eight global problems by 2015. The Millennium Developmental Goals project plans on solving each of these problems.

mdg_goals1

How can we find solutions to these problems in such a short time? I think we need to make some difficult decisions. We are the generation that can make a difference in the world today. First, we need to find the resources available to solve these problems.  Second, we need to make some hard decisions that will affect our way of life.
Goal 2 Universal Primary Education is key, we need to spend the time teaching each other how to live together in a healthy way. We spend way to much money on making more money. We spend little time thinking and helping those who are in need.
Take one example, the HIV and AIDS epidemic. One year of education can reduce HIV infection by 20%.
One issue effects another.  Another example, the issue of child and maternal health. This is still another example of the importance of education. We can’t look at each issue as seperate. They are all connected in some way. Better health education leads to better understanding about our bodies. Better ways to protect ourselves from disease and sickness.

Essential Questions 9B

October 14th, 2009 by WHuang13

Q1: For most ELDCs how much money would they have if their governments would not put money into their own pockets?

swag
A: A country will only improve if it’s resources are given out to its people equally for use in certain needs. Most African nations are ruled by corrupt governments. Presidents who claim to be democratic, still control the country and its people with an iron fist. Because of their job, they can easily take money from their country and it seems the money is now in their own pocket. They live happily while  their citizens are starving and in need of help. The more money the country has, the richer its government officials and president become. True democracy, is government for the people and by the people.

Do You Think Photo Retouching Contributes to Negative Body Image”?

October 9th, 2009 by WHuang13

Cyndi Lauper once sang, “I see your true colors shinning through, I see your true colors and that’s why I love you so don’t be afraid be let them show your true colors true colors are beautiful like a rainbow.”

I believe those words are so true, and we need to take her advice. Don’t let the images that we see on TV tell us how we should look, dress, and behave.

The models we see on TV, in movies, in magazines, and on advertisements are always impeccably skinny and beautiful. Many people believe that those models are the symbol of a perfect body size for women and men. I believe that theory is completely wrong! People should just appreciate what they have and not worry about what they don’t have. Living a healthy life style should be the goal, not just healthy physically, but mentally.

In the twenty-first century, computer technology is so advanced that random things can be done magically on a computer. Photo retouching is a computer program, which can easily help you change a normal picture into a model’s standard quality. For example, look at Kelly Clarkson. The picture on the left is from a recent magazine that claims to be the real Kelly. The picture on the right is the real Kelly.

kelly-clarkson-3202 Can you see the difference?

What Kelly Clarkson says:

“When people talk about my weight, I’m like, you seem to have a problem with it; I  don’t. I’m fine! ” Clarkson says. “I’m never trying to lose weight – or gain it,” she added. “I’m just being!”

Even though the picture on the left looks better, but I like the picture on the right   because in the words of Cyndi Lauper, your true colors shinning through.
