Which school more download music illegally?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

There are a total of 132 students from SSIS and HRHS that surveyed the question asking if they have downloaded music illegally. There were 60 HRHS students who have surveyed the question and 72 students from SSIS.

Hypothesis: Out of the students we surveyed, we think that SSIS students download more illegal music because students are not as aware of the laws of downloading music  in Viet Nam.

Result: What we analyzed is that 60% of students in SSIS and 28% of HRHS students have downloaded illegal music. 17% of students in HRHS have accidentally downloaded illegal music. 11% of students in SSIS accidentally downloaded illegal music.

Conclusion: Our hypothesis was right as we expected. Another reason why students in SSIS have downloaded illegal music might be students in SSIS listens to music more often than in students in HRHS.

Do SSIS students or Holy Redeemer Highs School (HRHS) students use computer for homework?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

There are a total of 132 students from SSIS and HRHS that surveyed the question asking if they used computer mostly for homework. There were 60 HRHS students who have surveyed the question and 72 students from SSIS.

Hypothesis: We think that SSIS students used computer mostly for homework, because there are more sources in HRHS to do homework.

Result: The result of this graph is 99% of students in SSIS and 73% of HRHS students use computer for homework. 1percent of students in SSIS doesn’t use computer for homework, and 27% of HRHS students does not use computer for homework.

Conclusion: The hypothesis we made was right, and we made an assumption that the way of education has impacted for students in SISS to use computer mostly on homework. They might not do research essays, and teachers might pass out worksheets for them to solve. Another conjecture we made is teachers in HRHS prefer for students to write their homework instead of typing them.

‘Internet use for research’ comparison between SSIS and HRHS

<Do you use the internet for research?>

dlaskfhaskldjghas

We created a survey about internet use. In this activity, 133 people surveyed, and 67 of them were female, and 66 people were male. We have surveyed students at Saigon South International School (SSIS) and Holy Redeemer High School (HRHS). At SSIS there were 72 people who completed the survey and 60 from HRHS.

Hypothesis: We think both people in Canada and Vietnam will use internet for research, because the internet is very unique and useful source.

Result: At SSIS, 100% of students use the internet for research. Somehow, 52 students (87%) at HRHS use the internet for research. Surprisingly, 30% of students in HRHS don’t use the internet for research. We cannot easily imagine how people don’t use the internet for research.

Conclusion: The result is unexpected we thought everyone would use internet for research. However there were 8 people in Canada who do not use internet for research. At SSIS, 100% of students use the internet for resources just as we expected. We think the reason why they don’t use internet for research is that maybe they don’t have a computer at home or there are lots of other sources than the internet in Canada.

People who check their email in Viet Nam and Canada- Comparison

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

We generated an assessment about internet use. In this survey, 132 students took this survey. Of this number 65 students were male and 67 were female. We removed an outlier from our graph who was a staff member who Mr. Bertoia consulted to do the graph. Students who took this survey were from SSIS (Saigon South International School) in Viet Nam and Holy Redeemer High School in Canada.

Hypothesis: We thought that the students in Canada would check their email more than the students who took the survey in Viet Nam.

Result: What we found out is, that more students who took the survey in Canada, never actually check their email compared to the students in Viet Nam. This surprised us however when we thought about what possible reasons there could to why this data occurred such as one of the possible reasons where students who go to Holy Redeemer High School could not have as many computers or internet access as much as students in SSIS.

Conclusion: To conclude the ending result of our data shows us that students in SSIS check their email via internet more than students from HRHS.

‘Website for News’ Comparison Between SSIS and HRHS

<Which website do you use for news>

dafadf

We created a survey about internet use. In this activity, 133 people surveyed, and 67 of them were female, and 66 people were male. We have surveyed students at Saigon South International School (SSIS) and Holy Redeemer High School (HRHS). At SSIS there were 72 people who completed the survey and 60 from HRHS.

Hypothesis: We think most people in SSIS will use CNN, because it’s popular and proportional. Most of student use CNN for resources. We have used CNN and BBC for resources/homework.

Result: Most students (36%) at SSIS use other website for news and least students (7%) use BBC for news. The rest of the websites were all about on average. As many as 28 students (47%) in Canada don’t use internet for news, and no one use BBC for news.

Conclusion: Our hypothesis didn’t support the result. The plot shows you that students at SSIS mostly use other website for news. On the other hand, students at HRHs mostly don’t use any website for news. Also, nobody use BBC for news in Canada. We think it’s interesting that most people in Canada don’t use any website for news and they don’t even use BBC. Maybe they watch news in television or newspaper, otherwise they are not interest in news. Canadian has their own news broadcast.

Working with the data

Friday, November 20th, 2009

We have spent time creating a survey about internet use and have used Tinkerplots to analyze data. We now will look at the data we have collected.

What does the data tell us? How do you and your peers use the internet?

In groups of two, you will need to create a series of blog posts where you explore the data we have collected. The posts will need to have the following:

  • a hypothesis that describe which data sets you will examine and what you think you will find.
  • data analysis use Tinkerplots to analyze the data and use a screen shot of your graph to add to your blog post.
  • conclusion was your hypothesis correct? What did you find when you analyzed the data?

You will need to look at differences between the Canadian students and the SSIS students, as well as, examine general trends among all of the particpants in the survey.
