Dragon’s Apprentice

We made our video as a skit, that had us acting out the problem and explaining how to become a better team. We talked how to keep peace among the team, how to work together, and how to get work done. Teamwork was thought to be a very important trait in our group. The reason is, if the group worked together work would be done much quicker and better compared to an arguing group. That is why our video showed how to get along with your groupmates to work more efficiently. We made quick work of the time we had, and was successful in planning and creating our video. During our time, we came up with a basic script to guide us on how to act out the scenes. While filming, our dialogue was mostly made up along the way, with a few guidelines. The filming process was slightly rushed, because of our limited time, so one skit couldn’t be filmed in time. I had not planned much for the filming, and neither did my teammates. Then we had to come up with an idea which I found useful with a group. I found rather than having a script to follow, having a few guidelines was helpful. It allowed for more freedom in talking while filming. This could create a disturbance in the flow of words if not planned for. These skills would apply to any other types of group projects, such as planning earlier and working faster. It would make working together better when planned beforehand and knowing what work needs to be done

Science Reflection

Our objectives were to filter water at a low budget.  The copper had to be removed, the pH made higher, sediment removed, and the salt removed in order for the filter to be successful. The limits were that we had a low budget because of the rural setting, and we also had limited resources. The filter was required to take minimal to no electricity.

The results were not successful because we had too little sample water. The only area we tested in was the copper testing, and the water was still too basic. After the water was filtered, the water became too acidic. The salt for the water inside was not salted,

Script

Our group designed a filter using a boiling method, where we had a small beaker inside a bigger beaker and the contaminated water was around the smaller beaker. The big beaker had plastic wrap on top to protect evaporated water and had a rubber band securing it. The plastic wrap had a rock on top, which made the wrap cave in towards the smaller beaker. After the contraption is placed onto a hot plate, the water around the small beaker would evaporate into the plastic wrap, and slide down into the small beaker. The small beaker would be secured down with rocks inside to stop it from floating. Our design process passed through three different filter designs, one of which was a layered filter, and the other two which were a boiling filter. The first was a filter which had multiple layers of rocks, grass, sand and charcoal which was scrapped for a boiling design. The second design was similar to our final design but only contained the two beakers and the plastic wrap. On our final design, we added rocks into our filter and used a rubber band to secure the wrap. Our group worked mostly independently, while researching, and worked more as a group when we started building the models. We would all start research on how to filter  by web surfing, and when would find an example we could try making. We would brainstorm and gather materials for the model and work together to test these models.

Digital Storytelling

    • What challenges did you face?
  • What are you proud of, or what do you feel you have done well?
  • How has the video changed/helped you to express the ideas and theme(s) of your poem?
  • What did you attempt to emphasize through your use of visuals, music, and reading (how you used your voice)?
  • What would you change if you did this over again?

In the making of this video I faced a few challenges to overcome. This was my first experience with imovie in making a video. I had a few issues with editing and timing the audio with the images, but the product came out decently timed with the images and audio. Finding a song and leveling it to not drown out the reading, but be at a good volume wasn’t nearly as challenge, but a still a minor challenge. The captions were a last-minute add on, so the lack of time was a challenge adding on to the lack of control on captions in imovie. I feel for my first time creating something like this I have done a good job, and I am proud of the final product. Some positives of my video would be the music, because I find the music fitting for the mood of this poem. Some images were also a pleasant touch in my opinion, such as the velcro which gave a strong emphasis on the trapped character on his couch. I would try to add more better quality images if I had the chance, because I changed some images midway through the project because I thought some had a weaker message than some other images. The search for pictures was rushed because the limited time period in which we were supposed to spend time on searching.

Art Passion Project

Day 1

I am planning on making a model of a robot. What robot it will be and it’s materials are not determined. I like the idea of our free projects which let our creativity flow. I would need extra research on this topic for next class

Day 2

Today in class I filled out my design process sheet readying me for the project. I have advanced into the process of making a miniature model of the final product which I will work on further next class. I will finish my model and hopefully soon make the larger version.

Day 3

What did you achieve today?

I started on the bigger model and I got as far as to creating the cylindrical shape that will soon become the base of the head. The size was bigger than my previous model, so it took a while to shape.

What went well and what needs to change next class?

I think the sculpting, generally worked well. I think the shape came out to an appropriate size in comparison to my smaller model. I would change the smoothness of the model and maybe the distance between the eyes and the mouth.

What did you learn today?

I learned about how to keep big clay sculptures safe, by watching a video educating me about it. The procedure in the video was short, but I will try to seal the air tighter than shown. I will also moisturize if I have to.

What are your next steps?

As I said before, I would work on shaving some parts off and lengthening the general area and another part to fix would be its’ head. It requires more of a dome shape which can be worked on later. The build was a rough sketch of what it will look like and details will be added later

Day 4

img_0171

What did you achieve today?

I started on my final sculpture and created it’s base and part of the eyes.  The base is cylindrical and round on the top. The eyes are somewhat similar to goggles which I made the frame for.

What went well and what needs to change next class?

I think the size for the goggles were good, but I need to work more on the sturdiness. The bottom part was partly wiggly and it was not as thick as the part above. This would make it more prone to falling apart which is why I will change it.

What did you learn today?

I learned how to sculpt big clay sculptures today. The clay is constantly molded and added to create that realistic look. My shape is simpler, which won’t be as hard as a human head.

What are your next steps?

I will start creating the eyeballs and the mouth to complete the basic look. The details would be added too, such as the teeth. As I stated before I will create a more sturdy bottom for the goggles by reinforcing it with extra clay and using the gluey clay to attach it firmer.

Day 5

What did you achieve today?

I created the eyeballs and reshaped the eye frame to fit the eyeballs. The mouth was also roughly carved to make a general shape. The eyeballs were rolled into a sphere and stuffed inside the eye frame which made it flatter and I added little squares as retinas.

What went well and what needs to change next class?

I think the sculpture fit together nicely which went well, but I would change the mouth area to make a bigger space for its “teeth”. I would change the space available for the mouth

What did you learn today?

I learned that you should plan ahead of time for spacing because it will become troublesome to try to fit something into a space it does not belong in.

What are your next steps?

Next class I will start shaping the top of the head more and I will work on defining the mouth and the teeth inside. I will carve out the inside of the mouth to make space. I will start smoothing and carving the top to create the dome shape.

Day 6

What did you achieve today?

I replaced a few more part for a more symmetrical look and rounded off and completed the basic shape of the head.

What went well and what needs to change next class?

I like the product of today’s work, and I would need to change in handling the clay better because some parts did dry up

What did you learn today?

I learned that I should seal the bag tighter by folding it around and moisturize with a few squirts.

What are your next steps?

I will try to finish off the sculpture and do more research.

Day 7

Day 8

img_0185

What did you achieve today?

Today I completed my bender sculpture after I touched upon some rough spots and I smoothed out the general area. I also shaped the head more evenly, to create a more cylindrical shape.

What went well and what needs to change next class?

Finishing off my sculpture was successful which went well and I would change in using my time more efficiently because polishing the sculpture took quite some time.

What did you learn?

I searched about sculpture stands for next class. I looked up some images to get a general idea, and chose to make it out of box, and cover it with a smooth substance

What are your next steps?

I will create some sort of stand for my head, which is undecided because it could vary from a box to a square stand. I am planning on using a different material, such as cardboard boxes that will create a base for the stand

Day 8

What did you achieve today?

I found a cardboard box that was the right size for a stand for my sculpture, so I cut up toilet paper rolls to fit inside the box for supports and plastered the outside with plaster strips.

What went well and what needs to change next class?

I think working on the sturdiness went well because it seemed like a very sturdy structure, but I would change next class in finding and using the right tools for the right jobs.

What did you learn?

I learned that scissors were not a great tool for cutting thick cardboard pieces. I tried using scissors, but the cut came out wonky, so I tried using a clay knife, but that didn’t work either. After my trials, my classmate showed by about the big knife, which I eventually used to cut the pieces more efficiently

What are your next steps?

My next steps are to plaster the box even more to create a smoother surface. I would decorate the box if I had more time, which depends on the next class.

Iguana art

The four squares helped me create my final product by training me in using various methods of techniques to achieve a realistic drawing

iguana

I was assessed on my techniques used in my artwork. I learned that toning plays a humongous and important role in the quality in your artwork.

Exploratory writing Summative Poem reflection

I learned a bit of vocab such as assonance and poem structure during this class. I wouldn’t classify myself as a poet because I don’t write poems much on my free time and the quality of my poems aren’t that great. I don’t think I will write any extra poems of my own, only the assignments. Poetry was pretty fun overall, but I following the rubric was hard, and I had to worry about grades so it wasn’t the easiest experience. I have grown as a writer in different ways, but I think I have more detailed sensory details than before.

Social Studies Character Assignment

imgresstewiesnoopyimage

I think I am in some ways similar to these characters because they show some of my characteristics. I thought Phineas might be similar because sometimes I do build tiny bits and bobs but not on a humongous scale like Phineas and Ferb. Stewie Griffin could have some similarities, because I think I may be a bit sarcastic at times, but I am not necessarily a small man with a world ruling scheme. Snoopy could be compared to me because of how he can be very lazy at times, but also can be active. He has mostly a boring life on top of the roof, but his imagination really make his life interesting.
