In this project on Human Rights, we focused on improving/learning different kinds or rights of everyone, and what's the causes and possible solutions. This is an important skill because we are to know what is happening in the world, what's the reason and how we can prevent it. One thing I improved while working on this project is my ability to communicate professionally because I'm the communication manager of the team, therefore, I'm the one in charge to communicate with the organization were working which is Habitat For Humanity. This blog post provides a reflection on my work, as well as a sample of what I accomplished.

  •  How did my collaboration with classmates help me focus my ideas or provide new insights

Since this project is a group work, I was able to improve my collaboration and my communication skills, each of us were sharing our ideas and helping each other on their parts so that our final product would be great.

What are the most difficult and most satisfying parts of the service you are performing? Why?

we have to research alot about the history, we also had to find pictures about out topic and put a citation on it

What did you do that made you feel that you made a difference? Why?

Letting people know what is happening right now, what caused it and what we can do now to help on this problem

Around 1000 B.C the city of Rome was founded on the Tiber River. By 44 B.C Rome ruled the entire Mediterranean world, extending its empire as far east of Palestine. One of my best professional qualities are I like to finish my works quickly and get it done. I also prefer working hard on something which will turn out great rather than not working hard on it which will result for me to doing more revising. These are great for professional occasions or business because of the quality of the work you present to someone which the business will think that you are highly professional and then they will hire you.But I also have a bad professional quality which is mostly procrastinating, once I stop procrastinating, I start to do my work well and quickly finish it.

My Resumé

A strength I showed was my ability to have a good analysis by explaining the importance of it, explain my ideas and by supporting it with good evidence from the DBQ.

Something I should work on in the future essay writing is explaining my ideas with less writing, probably summarizing it more because I had 1193 words overall.

My Essay:

During the 19th century, imperialism began in Africa by the Europeans. The colonization of Africa changed the country’s industry with new technology and new natural resources discovered. Europeans would go to Africa to attend meetings or go to special events. Going to Africa made it difficult for them due to a slow ship that will bring them to Africa, and they easily attracted to a tropical disease which can lead to death. With better technology, it made it easier for them to travel faster and safer to Africa. Technology made a big impact on  imperialism in Africa because new discoveries were made that we are still using these days. The primary driving force behind European Imperialism in Africa was technology because Europeans were able to take over Africa more safer and faster using the new technology developed by Europeans during the late 1900’s. Although, some people might say that Economy is more important because it boosted national pride, but technology actually boosted both national pride and economy.

Inventions such as steam engines and quinine helped the Europeans colonize Africa safely and fast. According to Document C, During 1797 steam engines were created, they are more constant and forceful source of power than sails on ships. They are also a faster form of transportation. There were a lot of natural resources discovered in Africa which were transported to Europe, new inventions were created from these natural resources which helped Europe make more because inventions like steam engines helped the transportation from Africa to Europe faster. The colonization of Africa during 1884- 1885 was a big move for the imperialism in Africa. European countries conquered Africa and started to bring slaves from local chiefs. During 1797, steam engines were created therefore there were no steam engines during the partition of Africa, but sooner it helped European countries transport people and natural resources. There were some natural resources which can’t be found in Europe but found in Africa. Europeans used steam engines to transport these natural resources to Europe which is used for making new inventions, or medicine to help them travel safer and faster. Free trade also became easier due to the ships made, countries can trade faster with more goods. The Background Essay concluded that, malaria is a common disease in tropical countries. Europeans were vulnerable to these diseases, therefore it was difficult  for them to conquer Africa without getting sick, because it can lead to death. Using cinchona tree bark, a treatment for malaria was discovered, quinine. Ships from America would arrive, trade their pots, cloths and guns for the West African slaves then sail back to America. These ships quickly anchored off the African coastline and their crews rarely left the ship due to the risk of catching malaria. Europeans were so susceptible to a tropical disease malaria. Using technology, they were able to discover a cure for this disease which will help them go to Africa without worrying about malaria. They were able to send more of their pots, cloths and guns to West Africans. Even though malaria isn’t the only disease that time, it was the most powerful disease which can prevent Europeans to colonize Africa. This helped the economics and national pride because the cure for malaria became popular to Europeans, so it started spreading around Africa as Europeans start to colonize. It also boosted the economics because of the cinchona tree bark, which the quinine is made of can also be found in Africa. Clearly, the use of technology was a big help during the European Imperialism in Africa. With the use of new technologies developed, Technology also boosted the national pride on the country because Europeans were able to get more natural resources from Africa, make medicines which can help the next generations with traveling or colonizing.

Even though the technology is the main driving force behind the European Imperialism in Africa, Many people think that Economy the main driving force due to the natural resources found in Africa, Europeans were able to use these natural resources to make money, or make a cure of a disease. However, these natural resource could also be found in other countries, and without the new technologies developed, it would be hard for europeans to transfer people who can study these resources and invent new technologies, therefore, these natural resources would be useless because without steam engines, it would be hard for Europeans to travel to Africa because it will be slower and it will cost money for a ship to go back and forth. According to Document D, African colonies had many resources exported to Europe due to Industrial or Economic use. There was approximately 18 natural resources Africa had which was exported to Europe. Using these natural resources, Europeans were able to create more with a faster rate which can help the colonization of Africa. There were a lot of expensive things sold which were made out of the resources exported from Africa. Although new inventions like quinine is made out of cinchona tree which can be found in Africa and it helped Europeans to explore Africa without getting a deadly disease. Already developed some technologies which is a boat that can help them go to Africa, steam boat was created which made it faster for them to travel, Without the steam boat, there won’t be enough people who can discover,or study the natural resources in Africa. According to Document C, Bessemer process was developed during 1855, it’s a quicker method of manufacturing steels. And according to Document D, steels like copper, lead and zinc were found and exported. Therefore, without technologies like Bessemer process they would have a hard time producing economic products like coins, metal alloys and electrical wiring. Without these inventions, the use of the resources won’t benefit the industry or economics because it won’t be processed, or it would be harder to process. Given the evidence, it is logical that if the new technologies weren’t invented,  the occupancy of the Europeans in Africa will be slow because the steam engines are slower, they had a high risk of getting malaria which is a deadly disease that can lead to death. Based on the evidence presented so far, it is logical that the use of natural resources would be useless without the technology, therefore, the economy of the country will be low.

Therefore, without the technology developed Europeans will have a hard time traveling to Africa and exploring Africa. Technologies improved the county’s national pride and economy, natural resources were founded which boosted national pride and economy due to to use of these natural resources for Industrial or economic use. All the inventions were important at the time, if there were no steam engines, there would be less people to study or find the cure for malaria which is from the cinchona tree bark. technology helped new ideas and inventions to come which boosted both the economy and national pride. In conclusion, technology was a big help to European during the imperialism in Africa because the new creations that were developed lead to new ideas of technology that can help Europeans gain power over Africa.

  1. How did you improved on your skills from the beginning to the end?

I became more confident not just talking with my team mates, but also presenting in front of the class  Collaboration and communication improved, we had to make 5 scenes from a song and as a team, we had to improvise on our own and support each other to make sure that our presentation is well done

  1. In which area have you noticed the most improvement? How do you know?

Communication and being more confident in front of the class, I also had my first experience of working with a team and we devised on our own which helped us support each other.

  1. Describe one of your best successes in this class. What did you do to make it so successful?

Our assessment, we had to pick a song and understand what the meaning of the song is and we had to compose 5 scenes about the song but without making it our theme song, just the main topic of the song. Our team did pretty well, we shared ideas, collaborated well and gave advices to make sure were doing it well.

  1. Describe a challenge you faced in this class. What did you do to overcome that challenge?

In the time we decided which song were gonna use which is Uma Thurman, we didn’t really have a clue what it is about, we only voted it because it sounded good (we didn’t know we had to do 5 scenes about the meaning of it ) we researched and re- watched the video. After carefully analyzing the video, we realized it was about obsessions therefore, we was able to do our assessment well.

     5. Of the topics, concepts and ideas you have learned about in this course, what has been the most interesting to you and why?

Using a certain topic and make a play out of it using only a few scenes, at first it seemed kinda hard not until all of us shared ideas and I think that this topic improved my confidence and working with my classmates.

Describe a challenge you faced in this class.  What did you do to overcome that challenge?

I had a hard time on choosing my topic for our persuasive essay because I had ideas but I didn't know how to support it and what strategy I should use to persuade the audience. I was able to overcome thin challenge by looking carefully trough my brainstorming sheet and analyzing the topics one by one, In my brainstorming sheet I also wrote down my ideas to support until I chose the topic that has the most of evidence to support it.

How have you used feedback (self-assessments, peer-assessments, teacher-assessments) to improve your writing?

Mr. Jardin said that I have to focus on a certain event and not all other kinds of Animal abuse, and I think that it really helped me focus on a certain topic and give stronger claims. Not only it helped me focus on a certain area of topic in my writing, it also made my writing easier because I know what topic I should research about, get sources and put my idea on it.

Of the writing and skills you have developed, what do you feel most confident about?

My lead and ending paragraph, I think that my lead paragraph is catchy and it hooks my audiences, it also gives the idea on what my topic is about and what my claims is on weather or not I support the idea. I also got a exemplary grade on the both of them which made me realize it was good.
