S.S Service Learning Reflection

In social studies, we created a house design for people in Vietnam that do not meet the standards for housing or for people who are disabled and can’t afford to get one themselves with their money. By June 2nd, we are required to present the work we’ve done and explained to the people what we did and reason behind our claim.   -Did anything surprise you? If so, what? Like I mentioned from before, I personally thought that this task was going to be very simple and easy. Instead I learned a lot of things on designing houses and sometimes doing so can be really complicated because everyone wants their idea to be in the paper and no one really communicates well if it was a team full of amateurs which was our case. -How are your values expressed through your community work? I had a passion in designing houses because one, I look to work as a team where every contribution is greatly apprenticed, two, I’m new to all of it and so finding out ways to do it and learning new ways to do it is always hard and fun, and three, in general, I really like looking and buildings and I’ve always wanted to make one and design one myself with my fellow classmates. -What were your initial expectations? Have these expectations changed? How? Why? At first, I expected this to be a very simple task due to the fact that we all had a plan in mind and we would follow it without trouble. Turns out, things got out of hand and we sometimes were very stressed out on what to do and what were our next steps. Mr post helped us each time by doing a group meeting each time we met and we slowly came back together and finished our...

ELA 8 Goals

What are your academic, social, and personal goals for the rest of the year? This year, my academic goal is to really study something. For the past years, I’ve never been really studying unless I had important test to do. Maybe I will start with studying the subjects what I have right now and memorising more words. I’m not sure about social goals right now but I will try to be a more affable person to others. For personal goals, I have a lot but mainly I’m trying to develop my critical thinking and convert my ideas what I have in my head. To be honest, I have so many ideas and thoughts but I just can’t express or explain to others and sometimes even to my self.        ...

ELA end of first semester reflection

What went well academically? Why? I think my reading went well academically. To be honest, I don’t read any books except I’m forced to do. However, after lit circles, although I was forced to read, it kind of encouraged me to read books. It was quite entertaining to discuss the book with others, hear their thoughts and do activities. As a result, I think that my reading skill has improved a little bit. Now, I’m planning to read more books. Talk about info paper experience good or bad (link)? I think the info paper experience was really valuable for me. I learned how to write intro, body, conclusion paragraphs. Also, I learned how to make notecards, which helps organizing informations for my writing. Once I done it, I recognized that it actually saved a lot of time. I think I will defiantly use it for my next info writing piece. How is g8 so far? Personal, classes, outside school, etc. I think it is going quite well. I’ve tried out and learn new things such as basketball and learning how to code. My classes, classmate and teachers are all great. However, I’m getting a bit nervous graduating high school right now. But anyways, since I’m going to face it anyways, I will try my best to spend my time wisely and...

Social Studies Reflection

I think that the most difficult thing to accomplish in Social Studies is researching good facts. Although there are many trustable database, websites and information, they have few or even no information about some topics of my projects. Because of that, I spend almost 90% of my time getting facts and making notecards. Therefore, it is really challenging to produce a good product. It is really interesting and fun most of the class since it is easy to understand and Mr. Benck teaches us in a entertaining way. The only downside of the part of the class is when I’m working on projects. I know, it is perhaps very obvious and common answers of most students. I think I need to improve mostly on my timeline. It is a bit unorganized and I didn’t really followed on my rubric. If I had another chance, I would try to make it more appealing and include what is required....

“Think. Explore. Change.” Language Arts reflection quarter one

Lit circles Lit circles for me was a new experience and a great chance to discuss books with other people. We basically talk with the people that chose the same book and divide 5 different jobs each time which are Leader, Summariser, Illuminator, Wordsmith, and Connector. I chose the book called “A Single Shard” and it was about a story of pottery and orphan in Ancient Korea. Personal Journey One journey that could be endless that I want to take is to know the truth as many as I can. The world, our society, universe, abstract thoughts, gods, life, time, or anything possible. Well, this could be everyone’s journey since this is what we are instinctively eagerer to. But I really want to take one step forward and start thinking about it in the future since to do that, I have to build up a lot of knowledge. One paragraph on Journalism  As we headed towards the gym, we could feel the energy progressively from the Gym in PE class. When we opened the door, everyone was shouting in excitement while they were playing tag. It seemed like the person wearing penny’s were taggers and there were some students who can save who are tagged. If they were tagged, they had to sat down and wait for someone to save. They switched roles for about 5 times and played a new game after each few minutes. All new taggers started from the middle and begun to tag when the coaches Mrs. C and Mr. burger blowed the whistle. There was a strong sensation that everyone was desperately wanting to be taggers and it really felt like a middle school tag olympics. It was really intense and some boys were really enthralled into it. Picture of...

Mandarin appearance project reflection

In this project, we were required to create an Imovie and describe the appearances of our 3 family member or relative. In my case, I did my mom, dad and my grandmother. During this project, I learned many different new vocabularies about appearance. For example, we learned physical appearance such as hair, mouth, head and nose. Also, learned adjectives like handsome, beautiful, ugly, tall, and short. At the beginning, I struggled to use Imovie because it was my first time using the tool. However, I got used to it and learned more as I worked on my project. So, it was perhaps my highlights and lowlights at the same time.  ...

Focus!

Did you ever tried juggling before? Although it may seem really easy, it is actually rather extremely difficult. Here are the steps for juggling 3 balls. The first step is to toss one ball from your right hand and catch with your opposite hand. Then, you toss from your opposite hand to your right hand and you repeat. The second step is tossing two ball. Most people juggle like a cycle, but thats actually wrong. The right way is to toss each balls on your hands to your opposite side in order. Obviously, the last step is tossing three balls. It is basically repeating second step continually. It was really frustrating and annoying when I kept failing juggling as I learn. It was defiantly the lowlights of juggling. However, as I practice, I reached the point when I felt I mastered juggling 3 balls. It was perhaps my highlight and it felt really good as I finished each step. Those who first start juggling, my advice is that you need to have high concentration, and a lot of practice for being good. Also, you should try to throw lower than your head every time you do it. Be really patient and I hope you could juggle like a...
