Geology Blog Post

 Guess what this is?

This is a volcano. At the bottom, the green, yellow, blue, green and yellow is the mountain. The red blocks are lava, erupting from the mountain. See it now?

In the Subduction zone, magma spill from the crust then drying. More magma spill and they spill on top of each other and beside. The magma dries and the weather might change and it becomes cold. That’s when igneous rocks form. They are the rocks inside the volcano, the type of rocks to keep volcanoes standing!

A subduction zone is when a heavier tectonic plate dives under the lighter plate. Its density decreases and mantle convection happens. Soon there is a magma chamber and it spills. (Go back to the paragraph above to see what happens next.)

The World’s Local Bank

The World’s Local Bank is the slogan of HSBC. This means HSBC is used all over the world and a lot of people use HSBC, as if many people go there locally like the local supermarket. Since it says it’s ‘worldwide’, this should be a reliable, trustworthy and safe bank. If many countries have trusted this company, many other countries would start having HSBC in their own countries hearing that many people like this financing company.

Gummy Bear Government

MonarchyOligarchyTyrannyDemocracy

This unit in social studies, we learned about Ancient Greek geography and Ancient Greek government forms. There are four pictures, each representing the four forms of government There are four: Monarchy, oligarchy, tyranny and democracy.

I knew that when a king or queen rules, it’s called monarchy. I’ve never heard of oligarchy. I know a little bit about democracy in fifth grade when on my classmate’s presentation was about the cold war, democracy vs communism. I also knew tyranny is a form of government ruled by a tyrant. A tyrant rules by force, that I also know.

Why is it important to know about government forms? It’s important to learn about it because you’d want to know how your country makes it’s decisions/laws and how the government runs the country. With votes, with force or with advisors/aristocrats. You’d want to know how your family is ruled over, how much the government care about your family.

Which form of government best fits and why? I think it’s democracy. Democracy is fair because you also get to participate in the decision making and you also get to suggest any ideas.

‘Botic Bird

Today in Digital Literacy, we are learning about robotics! With 2 softwares, one called Humming Bird and another called Scratch 2. We were supposed to make a light glow using the software from a macbook and a board connected to each other by a USB cable. We needed this tool that looked like an orange and thick toothpick to hold down the square, to put the cables of the light in. Then we opened Scratch and used an unusual block specializing for Humming Bird. We sucessfully turned on the light, but we were trying to make 2 lights turn on, but unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to finish it.

I learned what the LED was and how to turn on a light just using a command block on Scratch!

Social Studies – Minecraft Project

Hi! This week, I made a minecraft video about Ancient Egypt. I hope you learn something new from the video!

What are 3 ways this project helped you understand how water, vegetation, and topography influence the ancient human settlement?

One way of helping learn about the 3 factors were the chapters. I enjoyed listening to Ms. Wolf reading to us and had silent time answering the questions. The question made it easy and fun to remember how water, vegetation and topography effected the early human settlement. The second strategy was by making the Minecraft Project. Almost all the kids like games, so if you use a game to learn, it makes it fun. Then, they would want to pay attention. Because if you sit in a class and the teacher gives you lectures all day long, nobody is actually going to learn anything by the end of the class. I also enjoyed making the Geography Map and the Jeopardy Quiz. Some teachers say that if you write or draw it with your own hand, it will make you remember. And like I said, Jeopardy Quizes are like games, and when you have an award if you win, everyone will remember the 3 factors that effect early human settlement.

What are 2 parts of your project that you are proud of?

I’m proud of making the project, and it turning out right, there’s still a few mistakes but, it was better than I thought it would be. I’m also impressed with myself when I had to spawn things because I couldn’t put leash it onto the fence like I did with my hippos, duck and goose. I actually accomplished doing that without having problems.

What would I do differently if I were to do this project again?

I had too many long pauses and mistakes because I didn’t know what I was reading. What I would like to do next time is stop the pausing and the hesitations.

Tweak These Designs!

This is going to be my last Canva Tutorial Blog Post! Hope you learned something from all of them!

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-1-31-37-pm I was stuck on this one, so I used the ‘NEED A HINT’ button and there was a video that showed me how to do it in 30 seconds. It was just making the text the colour white!

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-1-33-05-pm The text was very near the edge of the textbox. So, I just moved it away from the edge.

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-1-35-18-pm Making the design more simple was quite easy. I just took off most of the autumn leaves on the design.

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-1-37-19-pm Finding a different font, matching hte snow was not too hard. I just looked at the font and said, “Does this match?” Then I ask, does it match another theme? If it did, it’s not the one I want.

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-1-39-45-pm The background is a dark colour so, I just chose a dark colour.
