Preparing for Semester 1 “Exams”

For the last week of Semester 1, we had many impediments in front of  our Winter Holiday Freedom. Two tests were scheduled to test our knowledge this week, and mainly due to chronic procrastination, all the studying ended up on the weekend. The Algebra Blue Assessment was on Tuesday, and the Science test is on Wednesday. Preparing for the tests wasn’t as easy as I thought. My forgetful mind mixed with the problems of technology made it hard to study. For algebra, I was only able to study for the green assessment, as Moodle had some errors. I only managed to access the blue practice on Monday night. Stressed out, I quickly reviewed all the material, and by then it was very late. Then I remembered – the science test. I rummaged my desk for my notebook and the science textbook, and after five minutes, I was reviewing what was recommended for us to review ( a document on the Science Moodle page). On Tuesday evening, after my Chinese lesson, I hastily put together an audio file for Mandarin II, although it was already late. I sent the file by email and then I rested. In conclusion, I think I should’ve been more organized and time efficient to maximize my preparedness for the tests. With everything almost over with the Science test in about ten minutes, I feel relieved and I might say that this week wasn’t so bad!

Algebra Unit 2 Assessment and Goal

“ Now that you have completed two assessments, does your final grade (to-date) represent your learning of our Algebra thus far? Why or Why Not?”

I think that my final grade does represent my learning of our Algebra so far. I’ve learned a lot this and it was reflected in my test scores. I have an A in Algebra. The reason I didn’t get an A+ is because I don’t pay attention much to the challenge questions and rush quickly through homework assignments. That is what made me hurry during the test and skip the important details in word questions.

“The class is half-way into unit 3.  What is your current goal for your unit 3 assessment?  Please describe your preparation for either the blue or green level assessment”

My current goal for my Unit 3 assessment is to try for the blue test. I want to be more calm and prepared to the test, reading carefully the problem (especially the word problems as I sometimes skip to the “important” bits). Additionally, I need to be less rushed when solving problems as this caused me to lose marks from very basic mistakes (like missing the negative sign when simplifying a fraction).

Algebra Unit 1 Assessment Reflection and Goal

What is your goal for your next assessment? What evidence will you be providing to show how you are preparing for this goal?
My goal for the next assessment is to improve on not missing on details and using my time efficiently during the test. Additionally, I should try work on Challenge problems.

2nd Quarter Goals

I have a few goals I want to accomplish this quarter, but during the first quarter I managed to accomplish some of my first quarter goals. I did well on completing my homework, and not leaving it until the last day. This year, I also took better notes – especially in Science class. One of the activities which helped me was the Humanities activity for learning part of speech. It really helped me quickly organize the word, find patterns in sentences and state which part of speech the word was. I did well on Humanities this year, and science. Normally, my average grade for Humanities would be between 92-93%, but now my grade is 97%, which is an astounding A+. In Science, I did really well on all the quizzes and managed to complete homework. My swimming and health were great well, and I never had any problems with the courses. What I did worse that before was Algebra. I usually have an A+ for that course, but this year I have an average of 93 (A). This quarter, I needed help with…..nothing because I had trouble with being more active in class and asking the teacher for help when I have problems. I mainly need help with Algebra because I only got a 93% on my overall Algebra grade. Additionally, I needed help with Mandarin as I only got 94%. My goal for this quarter is to participate more in classes, for example Algebra and Chinese. To do that I’ll try to listen more intensively and ask more questions (if I have any). My goal this quarter is to keep my GPA above 3.85. To achieve that goal, I’ll study more and try harder to achieve higher marks for my courses.
