My Weekend
Posted by Manh Hung in Uncategorized on May 30, 2012
This weekend was all about sounds, it was music, gunfire from a video game or a book flipping. But that was all the obvious sounds, sometimes we hear things that people don’t, like the wind blowing in your face, yes people can hear that but that sounds can remind you of something from the past, the memory can change the way you hear things. Last weekend, a very weird one, not your ordinary boring and studying one, it seemed like a holiday, I felt it was so long, I felt it was like 2 weeks. I heard the sounds of the water splashing in the pool, people laughing while

Nothing On My Mind
Posted by Manh Hung in Uncategorized on May 30, 2012
Nothing is in my head right now, except the sound of the people trying to free write about what is in their mind. There are seriously nothing I want to write about, scratching my head, I tried to think of something out of my foggy brain. Then though I should write about my holiday. But it was the usual, going to the beach, having fun in the pool, eats good food. THis would be boring writing about the last 4 days. I pretty hungry right now, I guess I can write about that, I am not sure how to start, maybe what I want to eat later? No that would be noring, great, now I just forgot how hungry I was. Im pretty mad about my grade for Algebra, I could write about that. But this might be too personal…..Time’s up, at least I got something done.

After reading this article, it reflects back to my Human Rights project. Even though Environmental Issues is not one of my research topics, I think this problem is still very important to our world, it might be one of the most important issues in everyday life. Here are something that shocked me about the article and thing I learned from it.
“He was with two journalists in the Cardamom Mountains in Cambodia, taking photos and collecting evidence of illegal logging when he was stopped by the military police. There was an altercation, and somebody opened fire. Mr. Chut Wutty, who carried a pistol with him because of frequent harassment and death threats, was shot.” First thing that surprised me was, there as only one experts while they travel, they should have 2 or three, bring journalist with them is also a bad move because they have no skills what so ever. The shooting occurred and the second thing that surprised me was taking photos could cause problems with the police. A question was brought up while I read this, how did the police get shot, did Wutty shoot him?
“His photographs show Mr. Chut Wutty amassing evidence to bring a large lawsuit to the government. Some of them were taken while riding motorbikes that Mr. Young, his interpreters, guides and other activists would take from site to site, sometimes being chased by military police or company security.” Wutty’s picture was amazed and convinced by a lot of people, to convince people, you need high quality pictures, needs to be clear, I was surprised he was on his motorbike.
I had learned a lot of things out of this article, I learned more about Human Rights and issues that are occurring during period of time, how we can help the Environment by just a few pictures and graphics. I also learned that pictures means a lot of words, Mr.Chut Wutty’s picture really encouraged the people around him want to help.

Eviction of Slums
Posted by Manh Hung in Uncategorized on May 1, 2012
Slums are everywhere around the world, even though it doesn’t look like much of a home to us, it’s home sweet home for the poor. But these home are now in the horrifying fear of eviction, they had finally found somewhere to live, and the government is going to take that away from them? Here are some of the things I think surprised me and the things I learned from this article.
“Dhaka district authorities say the eviction drive, which started on 4 April, has already removed around 2,000 illegal structures, including houses and shops, and reclaimed 170 acres of public land in the Korail slum, Dhaka’s largest and longest-standing informal settlement.”
This surprised me a bit because I know that they are not suppose to sell in random street shops but being in a slum does not affect them at all. Usually slums are out of the city, in the countryside, nothing can affect the city and the normal citizen, but still the goverment still wants the slums space.
“The slum dwellers have reacted with anger and dismay. They say many people were injured and one young girl was crushed under a bulldozer during the forced evictions, although this has been denied by the district administration.”
This paragraph surprised me because a person was killed by the bulldozer. They are already using machines and other technology and not warning the people that live there. I think the people that work for the government don’t care about these low class people, “They are just rats to us,” is what I think they are thinking. They are people, just like us, they are just having true happiness of having a family and being together, we are just playing around with out money then at the end saying that we still need more money to be happy.
After reading this article, there are a lot thing that stuck out to me and gave me a valuable lesson, one of it I think was very interesting. I learned that some people would not care about things that will make them happy and care about things that make them sad. Liking money for some people is better than caring for the world, for this situation destroying houses for them is better than helping them.

The Future Glasses
Posted by Manh Hung in Middle School, Uncategorized on April 10, 2012
People nowadays are thinking that Apple best, the Iphone is better than the Nexus One or just comparing phones to phones. At first I agreed, for one reason because all my friends have it and I don’t have one and also I think Apple company had went a long way since Steve Jobs were there and they had made a lot of cool and useful things. But after seeing this video and reading this article, my point of view had changed completely. At first I saw the product I was really amazed, the model was nothing I had seen before, you wear like it is your normal glasses, even though you would look kind of silly and weird in it but it still looked like something from the future. The I watched the video, and was more amazed, things are pooping out in front of your eyes, you can see the weather update when you look at the sky, find your way around the bookstore and also taking a picture with your own eyes. Here are some of things that really shocked me the most about the features of this product.
First of all, they way how you can take a picture with your own eyes is incredible. Usually, you would have problem holding a camera or your phone because your hands would shake and the result might be making the picture blurred or not clear. But with this feature, you can now take picture of right what you are seeing, this to me is amazingly portable because sometimes when you see something that could make a nice picture, you would sometimes not have your camera or phone with you, you will always want to bring the Smart Glasses with you and at the same times, take a picture with it. Second, the voice recognition of this product is also flat out amazing. In the video, the actor would say something the reminds the glasses to remind him later, this is like Siri but on a Google product.
There is one connection I want to make about this glasses. In the Disney Pixar Movie Wall-E, Earth is covered with trash human are moved up to a huge ship in space. They uses his technology to make life easier for them, and it is similar to this product. They also uses screens that ops out of their heads and every time they want to talk to a friend, all you do is just turn on your camera and just talk, it is like real life because the sounds are so clear and the video is so real. But the problem is they are overweight, everything they do they rely on the product. This might happen to our world, if we keep relying on technology.

Kony 2012 Poem
Posted by Manh Hung in Uncategorized on April 4, 2012
I’ve seen kids under abduction
The tears of savage and pain
Under the hands of disrespectful Kony
His insidious torture to the children
Had made him more powerful
To save these kids from their formidable fear
To help
Means to act
To stop the kids from being subjugated
They are in irresolution
But we will find their solution
We wear these shirts
To heal all their wounds
We will all be earthly people
And show to the world
That our magnitude of kindness
Will rise over the power of Kony
We will indulge and make a change
We will not back down
We will do arduous work
Until Kony is behind bars
If we avert now
Knowing kids are being kidnapped
Families would lose children
Brother will lose their sisters
Our solution will not be effectual
Kony Must be Stopped!
Posted by Manh Hung in Uncategorized on March 15, 2012
Kony is now very famous to everybody in the world by now, but I am still finding out who he is. After watching the video and reading the article followed by the video, I am now having a better understanding of Kony 2012. I picture him as the next most wanted man on Earth because of his crimes, and everyone on Earth is going to make him famous. The goal is to arrest him because of his crimes like kidnapping little kids making the boys become soldiers and the girls sex slave.
As I am watching the video, there are things that really suprised me. First, was the amount of people kidnapped. The video mentioned he had kidnapped over 10,000 children. It made me think that all those kids belong to 10,000 familes, they must crying all those years because of all those years without there loved ones. I did not know how he did it, kidnapping 10,000 kids is a very hard job, and also the time and work tunring them into soldiers are

harder. Another thing that really suprised me was how he used kids to maintain his power. Using kids to maintain power was something I never heard of, but he was doing a good job, the people got the U.S Army to follow him but have not arrested him yet, this to me was impressive.
After reading the article and watching the video, there are some facts that I wanted to point out and things that I wanted to say. At the point of the video where the producer of the video talk about Jacob and how he lost his brother, I listened to Jacob;s description of how his brother was murdered, I felt very sorry, I never had the feeling of losing my family member before but only imagining is enough for me. Then after that the producer asked” If he was here right now, what would you say to him?” Jacob started saying things that he would say to his brother, then said ” But he’s not here.” Then started crying, this made me think about the things I have . and the things he needs to have. I have a perfect family that is always happy, a lot of money, lots of education and more. Jacob has something even more important, courage, even though his brother is gone, his hope is still there and did not stop to fight til the end when Kony is arrested.
I’ve learned 2 things over the pass days by reading the Kony 2012. First when you want something to happen, you have to act on it to make it succeed just like the producer promised Jacob to arrest Kony, he tried so hard over the pass 8 years to make this happen and he is close to completing his promise. Second, when you are at your worst situation in life, when you have the courage to give up the past and live the present, you will crawl out of the hole you are in.
The Last Minutes of the Season
Posted by Manh Hung in Uncategorized on March 13, 2012
“Defense get back!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. The other team was sprinting at the ball, our team’s defense fighting through the opponent player trying to get the ball back. We are down 1-0, I think this is it, only 5 minutes on the clock, we have no chance of getting back now, but we are still fighting to the last minute. The defense made a great tackle , the ball came off ISHCMC foot . Ronald Trinh, one of the main defense, quickly threw it to the left side of the field. Ben Wong controlled it well, he crosses it across the wet field .The heavy rain is pouring down, being in goal and bending over is hard enough, now the heavy raindrops hitting me likes bullets, making my nervousness go up. Long Do controlled the lob ball perfectly dribbling down the court, the rain is too heavy to see the distant ball. Squinting my eyes, I tried to look at the the ball of whiteness through the thick rain that looked like fog.
Long dribbled down, passes it back to Ben Wong who is sprinting down the pitch .He fakes the defender and takes a shot. My heart stopped beating, Pyo, the opponent’s goal keeper, saved the striking ball. The hit was hard, it was like two cars hitting each other making almost an explosion noise. Every player of the team got their hands on their heads in frustration, I squat down in depression facing my head down. I looked up almost burst in tears when the keeper was trying to pick it, Long sprint down and tipped it over the keeper. In, its a in, I jumped

up with a fist, Long celebrating, running down the wet grass. The whole school on there f
eet hopping with joy, I smile big. We have a chance, whistle blows hard to declare a tie in second half , its penalty time.
Rain drops firing at the top of my head, our team is fully wet. I stared at the goal thinking this is it, the team depending on me, let’s take another championship. I closed my eyes and think about me next to the city championship cup, it felt good. “You want something, go get it.” I remembered my grandfather’s saying when he was still alive. Nicholas Daley was up first to kick the first penalty. Whistle blew right after he planted the ball on the wet paint
ed white circle. He takes a deep breath and runs up, kicked it right into the left low corner, keeper did not react. He makes it. My team had arms around each other praying. Walking up to the goal, a hard deep breath would help my nervousness. Going into the mid goal looking up to the sky saying to myself ,“ I got this!”
The rain got heavier since I stepped on to the white paint of the goal line. Staring straight through the ball, I concentrated. Whistle blew, ISHCMC striker blast it, I dived right, getting a finger on the ball. It was not enough to save the shot, ISHCMC first shot went in. I left the goal in a little disappointment. Next up was Mizuki, one our
Most Valuable Player award winner. He puts the ball down gently concentrating. Pyo hopping left to right making sure the goal was completely covered. He blasts it, Pyo reacted too slow, it went in. Our team raised their fist up to celebrate. I I walked up to the goal, looking straight at the ball, almost through it. Victor is up, one of ISHCM top striker. On toes, i concentrated even harder, whistle blows, he takes a slow jog and sprint at the ball, blasting it. I got my eye on it but not quick enough to stop the ball, it goes in. Hyun Jyun is up next, he even though wasn’t the main bit of the team, he was still there to help out. I stared at him, he was shaking, not sure if he was cold or was very nervous. This was not the time to feel both “Calm down.” I said in my head. Whistle blows, took 1 second to run up, he leans back, something is wrong. The ball flew higher than I expected, it goes over the bar. He misses. The team on there knee, hands on there heads. Hyun Jyun swat down hopelessly looking at the ground.
Sudden Death, if they score this, it’s done, we are gone. As I walk up to the goal, I saw the girl’s team has arrived from AIS, there hands was on there face. I saw the teacher staring right at me. I turned around and
saw the team not even looking at the goal, some were swatting, some were closing there eyes. I closed my eyes and look back in this team achivements, what we had accomplished this whole season. Had won MRISA two years in a row and had only lost once this whole
season and won all of the games. As a team, we had promised to do everything together, eat as a team, play as a team, talk as a team, uses the same body odor as a team, and my favorite, going to the toilet as a team. We had accomplished so much in so little time, and this save is for the team. I look up at the taker and he smiles. Then he looks at the ball. My heart beat was all I can hear. Whistle blows, he runs up.
Running up blasting the ball. I dove right, feeling the ball contacting with my hand. Opening my eyes wide. I see the ball going over the bar. I landed on the ground like 2 tons of metal crashing the ground with power. I looked over to see the ball behind the goal still bouncing. I saved it, I saved the goal. We have a chance. Seeing my teammates sprinting up to me screaming with happiness. A tear dropped down to my cheek. Everyone congratulating me. I did it. I walked back with my hand on my face saying “Did that just happen?” My team laughing, one member burst into tears. I smiled to sky. Ben Wong is kicking next, Pyo whispering to himself. Whistle blows, he blasts it. Hit off the crossbar, gave the team a heart attack then bounces in. The team takes a deep breath then out hard. Last moment of the season, would be the highlight of the season. I walk up to the goal, no, was not much time til when the referee blew the whistle, the opponent shoots.
It went over the crossbar. I stare at it, then turn around. The team was sprinting again, this time even faster. I was on the ground in complete happiness. I stood up slowly seeing the team hugging me, everybody is cheering, this is the moment I will not forget. I smiled as big as I could letting all of the tears go, its over. We went to shake hands with the opponent, they did a great job. I went to the coach while he reward us with the cup. Handing it over to Ms.Sunny, I felt like the happiest 13 years old in the world. We started singing as we head to the locker room wet, as a team.
ESLR

In everyday life, people need to have knowledge and sets of skills for a sudden challenge in life. The ESLRs are very good sets of knowledge for everyday life because these skills help you move pass problems step by step and, they are also very good source of education to teach you how to be calm and teach you how to have that sense of humor than can help you communicate with people. It helps you have balance in everything you do in life. Having balance is when your life is evenly distributed amongst your friends, school, and family. Here are the 4 categories that will help you in your everyday life.
In SSIS, the ESLRs are very important in our daily school life. For example, Academic Excellence is a important role in SSIS because these skills teach you how to listen to your teacher in class, participate actively in groups, and to reach the goals you want to reach in your classes. This skill helps you be successful in class. To be successful in school doesn’t
mean you have to have good grades, it also means you have a good sense of self. This skill teaches you how to be confident in your work and not always relying on your classmates or teachers . Another way to be successful in school is by helping others in need. You’re academic performance is not the only thing that matters, but also what you do to give back to the community. That is why Dedicated Service is one of the ESLRs. Balance in Life the only skill that really can be used inside and also outside of the classroom. Balance is key in this skill, for example, if you are getting too much work at school, and not having time to have fun with your friends, then you can uses this skill to balance out the outcome and have the same of amount of time to work and the same amount of time to hang out with your family, making you life better and also much stress is added on your schedule. For Respect for all, people might think that this skill can only help you with the relationship between your friends, but respect for all means to respect everybody, In class or even out of class. This skill will gain you the respect you earn.” If you want respect, you have to earn it.”
There are many ESLRs that can really help me in my life, but there are two ESLRs that I really think will be a everyday tool for me in the future. First, Academic Excellence, if I learn to listen to the speaker and identifying my mistakes from old problems, I think I’ll do pretty good in the society. Being able to solve problems step by step can lead me to success. For e

xample, if I became a business man, as my parents want me to be as my future career, there would be obstacles that I have to pass. If I am good at problem solving, I would be successful in my career. Second, Sense of Self, I really think that this skill is useful for my daily life because having the courage to believe in yourself and to have the confidence in yourself is very important. For example, in daily life, you will being interacting with a lot of people that you will be working with And to do so, you must have the confidence in yourself to debate what’s right and what’s wrong, to prove them wrong.
I am still working towards and wanting to archive all of my ESLRs. Eventhough the ESLRs are great, I cannot work towards it achieveing my goals all at once. I need to make little goals that can help me achieve some of the ESLRs. Some of the ESLRs I want to achieve are Academic Excellence, Sense of Self and Balance in Life. First, I wanted to improve on my Academic Excellence because this is one of the skills that’s is used mostly in the classroom. I do listen to the teacher and follow the task very well, but I noticed that I don’t really put my 100% afford on it. I tend to go off track and get my attention somewhere else. I want to improve on this by the end of the year. If you are successful in class, you would be allow to play sports, balance is key in this skill. My goal is to improve all of my grades to A, B or higher, this way I can join sports freely. Leading up to balance, another skill I want to improve on is Balance in Life. Balance is a problem for me this year and I want to work on how I balance out all of the things I do inside and outside the classroom. I tend to spend a lot of time on playing sport at home until 6 then after that, I usually go online and waste time on funny comics or just go on Youtube and watch videos, then finish my homework late at night. This results as me being sleepy at school and not listening to the teacher. Although I tend to finish my homeworks, I would mostly be sleepy in class. My goal for this school year is when I go home, I would spend at most 1 hour of exercise and spend the rest of my time at home finishing my work before I go and start doing anything else. Lastly, Sense of Self. Not only do I see this in myself, but my friends think that I am not confident. If I’m not confident, I am relying on other people and what they think. And when my judgement is right, I don’t know it. My goal for this last semester is to rely on myself a little bit more, to be confidence in what I do and in what I say. I can feel it when my level of confidence goes up.
ESLRs are very useful in everyday life. All of the things I said that I could improve on would be my year wide goal for next year. I hope at the end of the year I improve on all of my ESLRs that I’ll say I’ll improve. As an SSIS student, being able to be successful in all the ESLRs will make me a better student because it means I am confidence in myself, I am respectful to others, I am a active listener, I participate in a lots of activities and I have balance in everything I do.
Shooting in Ohio High School Result to 3 Students Dead.
Posted by Manh Hung in Grade 8, Middle School, Teachers, Uncategorized on March 5, 2012
I have read many articles that are related to this one, where there was public shooting or a robbery. Eventhough there are a lot of article similar to this, this particular one was special and really grabbed me because of the title. At first I thought that it would be a normal shooting at a school and a lot of people would get hurt or killed, I don’t tend to be comfortable reading them because I feel very sorry to the people that died when they are completely innocent. As this was of the choices for AOW, I kept reading and found out that the shooter was actually one of the students. I almost jumped out of my sit in shock because, I had never read anything about any student killing other students. My first image of this boy Lane is completely out of his mind. Who would go to school armed with weapons? I think he is obsessed with video games because these days people are making too many blood and violence video games like Call of Duty and other First Person Shooting game. Then I kept reading and another fact shocked me, the victims are just random. He did not object or target anyone. Lane just came in the cafeteria and started shooting at random students.
There are variety of things in this article that had made me think and connect to what I have read in other articles are these. I had noticed that after the shooting, the police had captured Lane, they said Lane is still in “detention”. “Lane’s grandfather and two aunts sat beside him in court. Joyce asked that Lane be kept in detention” said the writer. He should be locked up right now according to his age and his actions. Not be there adored by the family members. A few years ago, my dad had read me an article of a 18 years old mad at a friend fall going out the his crush. He then brought a AK-47 to school ordering the guys to line up, and the girl to line up. He started shooting and killing everyone one by one. Police was not there quick enough to save the last person. He killed almost 50 students and injured 20 people including the teachers and staffs. I’ve read that Lane is also bullied at school. This is a huge point because now there would be anger going on in this article. A student in his grade tried to help him, posting this on Facebook. ”I wanted so bad to try and help you but i could see in your eyes you didn’t care anymore. I’m sorry buddy,” said his friend. I think he tried and made a good attempt to stop his anger, but Lane is just seriously hurt inside.
I’ve read the article over and over again asking myself, is there another reason why he had open fire. After all the reading, I had came to the conclusion that he is not a bad guy. When you are bullied, you tend to do things you would never think of doing. Killing 3 people was never tend to be in his mind, he was just too hurt and his emotions had lead him to murder of 3 innocent people. I’ve learned now that when you choose the wrong choice of solving a problem, the result will cause you your life, or even 15-20 years in jail.
