Human Rights Showcase reflection

For our human trafficking project, my group and I created a flyer, for the children’s organization,Blue Dragon. We then proceeded to hand out these flyers to local coffee shops to help us advertise their annual fundraiser. This will help spread the organization’s reaches, and help them raise the money they need to save the children.

Here is the front and back of the flyer that we handed out:

  • How did my consideration of my “user” influence my work? So for the flyer, the audience is a very big focal point that we all had to focus on. First impressions can really have a big impact on whether people decided to donate for our cause or not. So since human trafficking is a rather sensitive subject, we decided to have a not very graphic flyer, and to focus more on the credibility of our organization. We were targeting people in the phu my hung area, which are most likely intellectually aware of the problem of human trafficking. That is why we had an infographic about how their money was being spent in the Blue Dragon Organization.
    • What did you learn from visiting other exhibits? There were a lot of other groups that worked with the same organization that we did, so it was pretty uplifting to see so many people working together on the same cause. I was also impressed with how serious the other problems were as well. For example, I had no idea that preterm births were so common in Vietnam without the help of the group that worked with harvest baking. It is pretty cool to see how there are so many people in the world trying to make it a better place.
      • How did my collaboration with classmates help me focus my ideas or provide new insights? When we were presenting in front of all of those audience members, they sometimes asked questions that I didn’t know how to answer. But luckily, since all of my team members know the information as much as I do, they are always able to cover for me.

Service Learning Reflection

For our human trafficking project, my group and I created a flyer, for the children’s organization,Blue Dragon. We then proceeded to hand out these flyers to local coffee shops to help us advertise their annual fundraiser. This will help spread the organization’s reaches, and help them raise the money they need to save the children.

  • What did you do that seemed to be effective or ineffective in service to others? I thought that taking our flyers to the coffee shops was very effective, since the consumers of those coffee shops are very capable to donate.
  • What do you think is your most valued contribution to the project?  I think it would be actually persuading the owners of the coffee shops themselves through pleading the case of human trafficking

Poetry Reflection

At the beginning of this poetry unit, I thought poetry was only about creating phrases that sounded good after one another. Rhymes, and usage of syllables was the only way I could’ve thought of to make poetry. But throughout the course of this unit, I have learned much much more about how poetry has much greater depth than many other forms of writing. It is basically, a meticulously selected array of words that when strung together, will say more than is ever needed. Throughout this unit, I was challenged mostly with inspiration on what to write my poems about. Usually, once I started to get going, the ideas seem to flow directly on to  the sheet of paper. But before this could happen, I would have to spend several classes and hours just simply thinking about what I should write about. Word choice, metaphors, and similes make a lot more sense if you have an idea as to what you need to write about. In this entire unit, I think I enjoyed just expressing myself in other characters’ shoes, and just spewing words onto my white canvas. Since poetry has so little rules and boundaries, I was completely free to experiment with these tools, in any way I deemed fit.

ELA Resume

I have some very good leadership and communication skills, that are very valuable in many fields. Since most jobs nowadays depend on good teamwork to be efficient, this skillset will definitely help me become more successful in my later life. I am also very multi-abilitized, meaning that I will be able to fit in wherever I go. In the future, the world will be inhabited by global citizens, where I will have to interact with many different cultures and people to work in the line of business. This is when my great social skills will come into play.

Some qualities that I could work on improving though, would be my organization and focusing for long periods of time. I have had this problem with me for a very long time, and improving it will help me to become a better business man in the future.

The Final DBQ

– What helped me stay organized?

In this project, we had very minimal time to work on it, since we had to stay focused and work throughout the course of 3 class periods.

A strength I showed was my ability to make my claim and reasons very clear to the reader, giving it much more strength.

I could definitely work on expanding my analysis, and making it so that it covers a lot more information.

The Enlightenment Show

In this project on the Enlightenment thinkers, we focused on improving/learning about their ideas and how it would apply to other modern day thinking. This is an important skill because this is a critical thinking factor that will help me to understand other ideas beyong just memorizing, but towards applying it to my own thinking. One thing I improved while working on this project is my ability to analyze other people’s ideas compared to my own. This blog post provides a reflection on my work, as well as a sample of what I accomplished.

How did I stretch myself as a writer on this piece?

I used a new writing style, in which it was a lot more narrative but still with informative aspects. Before this project, I wasn’t very keen on writing scripts and screen plays, but with the arrival of this project, I developed lots of other skills.
