CAS: First step to make a change through App

I have finally submitted my prototype app! This is my first step to chase after my dream of helping animal organization through app. Ever since semester 1, my group (Kaithe and Steffi) and I worked really hard to think of an app and plan the business plan. We participated in an event called, Technovation Competition. Technovation is a program to encourage girls from grade 6 to 12 to develop an “early interest in technology through an ambassador program.” This program help girls to become “entrepreneurs to be able to create real products that can be pitched to real investors.”

It is a good experience for us to take first step to help animals and connect with the community.

“Furever” aims to help raise funds for animal shelter organizations so that they would be able to upkeep more animals, and decrease the frequency of animals being put to sleep. There are four animal categories to choose from, consisting of dogs, bears, monkeys and leopards. After choosing a species, a virtual pet that connects to an actual animal in one of our organizations you would be automatically assigned. Taking care of your virtual pet is similar to how you would take care of a real pet. You would have to buy food to sustain it, toys to keep it content, and to buy those items as stated before, you would need to pay with real money. The amount of money spent, would go to help the organizations upkeep the actual animal of that virtual pet. Furthermore, pictures and videos of your animal would be sent from the organization.

This is my certificate for participating in the event! –> technovation_certificate

After all of the adventurous time I have spend on community service, my friend and I have decided to make a club that we have been waiting to make one for this new year, 2016. Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation is a organization that help trafficked women and children to China. Blue Dragon organization work with the police and the government to get back the people to reunite back to their family and look for their job.

I am very honored to work with my friends to help out the Blue Dragon!

2015-16 HS ASA Choices - Session 2

Last year, it was only me, Kaithe, Mary(senior) and Trang in a small group inside GIN. But this year, I’m very proud to work as a independent group with 12 new members!!!

I’m so proud and glad to start on new project with my friends starting this year.

My friend and I will work hard, so that someday we will be able to go to Hanoi and see the Blue Dragon Organization and meet the new kids.

Humanities/ Human Rights Inquiry Final Writing Product/ Speech

Speech : Tackling poverty should be our first priority

by SOOMI HO

Tackling poverty should be our first priority. Like slavery, poverty is not natural. It is man-made. It also has the possibility of being eradicated through our own actions. Poverty is not created by the poor. I repeat it, poverty is NOT created by the poor.

600 million children worldwide are living in absolute poverty. 6.9 million children under five years of age died in 2011. That means nearly 800 children died every hour.  Some 18 million people die a year or 50,000 per day due to poverty-related causes: in total 270 million people, most of them women and children, have died as a result of poverty since 1990.  1.02 billion people go to bed hungry every night. For the 1.9 billion children from the developing world, there are 640 million without adequate shelter, 400 million with no access to safe water and 270 million with no access to health services. The number of people living in poverty in 2012, 46.5 million people is the largest number seen in the 54 years for which poverty estimates have been published in the United States.

According to UNICEF, an organization that helps people in poverty, they state that, “ 22,000 children die each day due to poverty and they die in poorest villages far removed from the conscience of the world.”

When poverty still exists, there is no true freedom. Poverty is not caused by themselves but it is caused by climate change, bad government policy, political instability, ethnic conflicts, and responsibility. People lose their lives without choice since they can not pull themselves out of poverty. People say, that the poor doesn’t affect our lives. That’s not true. Well, rather than affecting you, it affects the whole country to attain social and economic progress. If resources are not used,  then these resources will be going to waste.

The World Bank Project says that the number of poor people will increase in the coming years due to slowing economic growth and slow poverty reduction efforts. Population has the potential to impact all aspects of poverty.

Children experience poverty as an environment, that can damage their mental, physical, and emotional health. Education could be the most powerful weapon to lessen poverty.

Mahatma Ghandi said, “Poverty is the worst form of violence.”

If we give those who needs opportunities, a job and education, poverty can be stopped. It doesn’t mean donating to a local charity will help overcome poverty.  Listen! The poor is the voice, we are the messenger. We have the power. Do not look the other way; do not hesitate! Notice the poor, recognize the world is in a hurry for action,  not words. Let’s act courage and tenacity. We can change. Let’s make poverty, history.

Chemical Reactions

For the past few weeks we learned about Chemical Reactions. What is Chemical Reaction? What are the 5 types of chemical reaction? How do we know chemical reaction is occurring? What is chemical formula? You would wonder what chemical reactions are and what they are. A chemical reaction is the change of a substance into a new one that has a different chemical identity.

A chemical reaction is accompanied by easily observed physical effects, such as the emission of heat and light, the formation of a precipitate, the gas production, the change of Ph, or a color change. Chemical reaction formula are Symbolic representation of Chemical Reactions. The five types of chemical reaction are synthesis, decomposition, combustion, single and double replacement.

The reactants are the substances that are present before the chemical change takes place. They are the things that are present at the starting point. Reactants are substances that takes part in change during a chemical reaction.

The products are the substances that are formed during the chemical change. They are the things that are present at the end.

Products are the compound or element you get out of chemical reaction.

Reactants produce products. Synthesis simply means to put ‘Things’ together and get something new and different.

Decomposition means the separation of chemical compound into elements or simpler compound.

Single and Double replacement are two different things. Synthesis means when one element replaces another element is a compound but double replacement is where ions in 2 reactants switch places, the positive ion drops the original negative ion and bond with other and finally, Combustion is when a hydrocarbon reacts with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water.. combustion means burning. Chemical Reactions unit was challenging but I will overcome it by reviewing and asking questions more.

Humanities- Sonnet

Forgive Me – from the dead to his lover

It was all my fault so don’t ever cry

I have ignored the words you said today

I was anxious to hear the word goodbye

I brushed you off, and walked away.

I have avoided looking in your eyes

I was horrified to hear the words from you

I regret leaving the world, with broken ties

I didn’t want to believe it was true.

Then you drowned with grief, loss, and sorrow

Now fragile, broken, emaciated

I foolishly believed that tomorrow

Your pain would be gone, our love not wasted.

Wipe your tears, get a grip and take a step

And please for one last time do not misstep

SHO Newton’s Vehicle Car Reflection

Describe and build project

How Newton’s law apply to your car

Choose the winner or loser and explain why they win or lost

For past few weeks, during my H block science class we had spent and experienced unique time in our class, by making and designing a car rather than holding a pencil and studying. For this semester project we worked on Newton’s vehicle project where we make a car that applies

to the Newton’s first, second and third law.

In our group we used a balloon to our car. The Newton’s First law is also called the law of inertia. It says that an object will move at constant velocity unless an net force acts upon it.The balloon applies air pressure which allows the car to move. When we blow up the balloon the air pressure goes out and the other air behind would give the same amount of force back. It push equal amount force back that makes the car to move.

For the Newton’s second, it says that the speed is produced by a force on the object, and it is based on how much force is applied, the more force the more slower so we used the lightest materials as possible to make our car.

Lastly for the Newton’s third law it states there for every action there is an equal reaction. The action is the air pressure that is releasing from the balloon the action is the car moving forward.

The winner from the race was the car ronaldo…. not my Kst cart… the car idea of using balloon were the same as us but their wheels were bigger and lighter than ours. We used a plastic C2 bottle caps but they cut out card boards to make theirs.

Simplifying Expressions

What I learned in the video is that the dogs can talk XD ahahaha just kidding! Actually I learned in this video about terms and like terms and coefficient, about simplifying expressions. the numbers without the variables are called coefficient but the ones has are called terms. It is still hard for me to understand all these kinds of expressions stuff but I will work hard and study, asking more question s to know more about it. My question to you all, to you the readers, why don’t you try solving…….

8p-5p+5-p-2

After you watch the video, why don’t you try to solving this problem! good luck!
