Deformities Found in Gulf of Mexico
There are recent news that on the Gulf of Mexico, fishermen and scientists have discovered the deformities of sea creatures/ marine life . Here are a few examples straight out from the article below.

- Shrimp with defects on their gills and “shells missing around their gills and head”
- Shrimp without eyes
- Shrimp with babies still attached to them

BP Oil Spill Aftermath: Eyeless Shrimp, Clawless Crabs and Fish with Oozing Sores
What causes this problem? Al Jazeera had just published a stunning report on the effects of BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Trust me, it isn’t a pretty sight. There are various amount of deformities in marine life: mutant shrimp, fish with sores and lesions, eyeless crabs and more. This had never happen before, and it’s very disturbing news to the fishermen as well as consumers and producers.
Therefore, scientist have proof that the products used for cleaning oil, is very useful, for cauterizing waste. However, it’s extremely dangerous for human as it is considerably a toxic because it’s acid.
“ Symptoms of exposure include “headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pains, chest pains, respiratory system damage, skin sensitization, hypertension, central nervous system depression, neurotoxic effects, cardiac arrhythmia and cardiovascular damage.” Even more damningly, it can disturb the growth and development of a fetus.”
Nevertheless, the government had denied this. FDA, EPA, and NOAA (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration) all refused to comment on the distasteful event that’s happening in the Gulf of Mexico. Ironically, according to the video, the company who created this catastrophe in the first place had refuse to take the blame, instead, saying that the Gulf as safe as it was before the accident. Then why did the evidence indicates otherwise?
I don’t really get why the government had decided to refuse to comment on this forlorn matter ? People usually depend on what the govenrment say, but if they refuse to speak their minds, what will happen to the people? How are they able to eat fresh/ non-toxic sea food? Is it guarantee to be toxic-free? I don’t think so.
“The Gulf of Mexico provides nearly half of the seafood caught in the US (40%). With its inhabitants dying or suffering mutations before they’re caught, it looks like seafood shortages are inevitable. According to various fishermen, brown shrimp catch has dropped by two-thirds, white shrimp have been wiped out and some fishermen’s seafood catch are ten percent of what they normally are. Seafood, as America knows it, has changed. And without the proper funding or commitment or BP accepting the blame, these effects might last longer than anyone thinks.”
Judging from this quote above, the sea creatures have decrease abundantly. Fishermen will then go bankrupt in that area because of the sudden downfall for economy in sea creature area. How will children and families survive without numerous nutrients from marine life? How would this effect the lives of those who are in the jobs of oceanic? How will this effect many people’s health? All these questions and concern are zipping through my mind with incredulous speed, but the one that’s most important is: Have anyone ate these mutant creatures and how might it effect their personal health? How might it effect the health of that area ?
